Do Uber drivers rate riders? (all you must know)
One of the features that keeps Uber riders informed is the ability to rate drivers to help other users determine their history on the platform.
So if you’re wondering if this works both ways, and if Uber drivers also have the ability to rate riders, here’s what you should know!
Will Uber drivers rate riders in 2022?
Uber drivers rate riders because the feedback system works both ways. Like passengers, drivers can rate them from 1 to 5 stars in 2022. Drivers can see your average rating, which they can use to accept or reject your travel request. If your rider rating drops enough, your account may be suspended.
Read on to learn everything you need to know about Uber’s passenger ratings, including how the system works from the driver’s side, how averages are calculated, and more!
Will Uber drivers see your tips before they rate you?
Uber drivers can’t see your tip until they rate you because they don’t know what you tipped until they lose the ability to rate you.
Uber won’t show drivers exactly what you tipped until they receive a receipt for the trip some time after the trip, but they can only rate you for a short window after the trip.
Can Uber drivers change rider ratings?
Unfortunately, Uber drivers can’t change rider ratings because the rider ratings they left were locked after they were first posted.
Previously, Uber allowed drivers to request changes to the ratings they gave riders, but that has changed.
Riders can change the ratings they leave, but that doesn’t work in reverse, presumably to prevent rider tips from affecting their ratings.
Do Uber Rider Ratings Matter?
Uber passenger ratings are important because if they fall below a certain threshold, their account may be suspended.
As with driver ratings, ratings considered sufficient for deactivation vary by city.
However, they are given advance warning to improve it and instructions on how to improve it.
However, a low rating may affect a rider’s ride ability until it is deactivated.
Because drivers can see a passenger’s rating before starting a trip, they can decline the request, which could mean it’s difficult for passengers to use the service.
In fact, if the driver is in an area where they can afford to decline a request, such as in a large city, this is a serious problem for low-rated riders.
Can you see what your Uber driver is saying about you?
You can use this process to see what previous Uber drivers have said about you:
- Open Settings from the top left corner of the app
- Select “Privacy”
- Go to Privacy Center
- Swipe right and find the tile labeled “Would you like to see a summary of how to use Uber?”
- Below this, find and click View Summary
- When you reach the page titled “Explore Your Data”, scroll until you find the rating
- Click “View My Rating”
This will show an overview of your rating history, but will not tell which driver left which ratings because it is anonymous.
How is Uber Rider Rating calculated?
Uber rider ratings are calculated based on the average of their most recent 500 trips.
If you don’t have 500 trips, your average rating is calculated from all your trips, which is why it changes so much when you first start.
Why do Uber drivers rate passengers so poorly?
Uber drivers rate riders poorly for the following reasons:
- They didn’t show up at the pickup location on time
- They are rude or unpleasant during the trip, such as yelling
- They smoke in the car or eat without asking
- They ride with non-service animals without asking or taking steps to minimize damage to the car
- they leave a mess in the car such as vomiting
- They do not adequately convey important information
How can I improve my Uber rating?
You can improve your Uber rating by first finding out why it’s so low using the reasons in the section above, then try the following:
- Arrive at the pickup location on time so you don’t keep the driver waiting
- Choose the right ride type for your needs, eg Uber Pet if you’re riding with a non-service animal or XL if you’re riding with a large group of 4 to 6 people
- Communicate important information clearly and promptly, for example, if the driver needs to get out of the vehicle
- Avoid smoking or eating while riding, and if necessary, ask the driver first if it is ok
- Try to be polite to the driver
- If you wish to improve your rating faster, please tip the driver in cash
- Do not litter in the car and be sure to take any carry-on items, including wrapping paper, for later disposal

in conclusion
Uber drivers rate riders on a scale of 1 to 5, but they only have a short window to do so until afterward to see the tip. This means that it is almost impossible for your rider rating to be affected by your tipping habits.
Your Uber Rider Rating may be low for reasons such as making drivers wait at pickup stations, being rude or generally unpleasant to them, and leaving clutter in their cars. If your Uber rating is low enough, your account may be suspended, but you will be notified in advance.
