Does Walmart trade in products? (TV, iPad, game console, game console, computer, mobile phone)
Companies have turned to trade-in programs as a way to gain new loyal customers, grow their own inventory (who doesn’t like a refurbished deal?), and offset many costs.
With its massive presence in the retail space and the thousands of electronics it sells, you might be wondering: Does Walmart trade in old products for new ones? Here’s what I found!
Does Walmart trade in products?
Walmart is accepting trade-ins on seven different types of electronics as part of its gift card gadget program. Through this program, customers can use their website to evaluate their items, get trade-in value, free shipping and earn a Walmart e-gift card. Walmart also offers a separate trade-in program for phones.

What can you trade in at Walmart?
Walmart’s trade-in program accepts seven different categories of electronics.
These include:
- cell phone
- tablet
- video game console
- voice speaker
- MP3 player
- Wearable device
- laptop
To find out if your device is eligible for trade-in, visit Walmart’s Gadget to Gift Cards website, then navigate to the device category in the upper left corner and find the make/model in the list.
Is Walmart in the TV trade?
Unfortunately, TVs aren’t part of Walmart’s trade-in program.
One reason I can think of is that most TVs are too big and too flimsy to withstand shipping.
While companies like Walmart have plenty of packaging options to safely get large electronics into customers’ hands, it doesn’t work both ways.
Everyday consumers simply don’t have enough professional packaging to send back something so fragile.
Getting it was too expensive for customers and too much of a hassle for Walmart.
Is Walmart in the iPad deal?
Walmart does accept Apple iPads for trade-in. They currently accept 19 different iPad models, starting with the iPad 1!

In addition, Walmart accepts tablets from 18 other manufacturers. You can find the full list here.
Does Walmart deal in video games?
Walmart is currently not accepting trade-ins for video games.
My guess is that there are so many different types on the market that keeping up with everything, and pricing them fairly, will be a daunting task.
If you want a video game deal, stores like GameStop and Best Buy accept them.
You could also try Googling “video game trade-ins near me” as sometimes independent used media stores can be quiet, especially in big cities!
Is Walmart in the video game console deal?
Walmart does accept trade-ins for video game consoles.
They currently accept consoles from three major brands: Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony.
Walmart seems to be most interested in newer models than older gaming systems (which some might consider “vintage”).

Is Wal-Mart in the computer trade?
Walmart currently does not accept desktop computers, but allows customers to use laptops for transactions.
Walmart accepts laptop trade-ins from 16 manufacturers, including Apple, Dell, Lenovo, Microsoft and Toshiba.
I guess they don’t accept trade-ins for desktop computers because of the size and the many parts – screen and hard drive!
Laptops, on the other hand, are more compact and mobile.

Is Walmart in the cell phone trade?
Walmart accepts phone trade-ins in two different ways.
First, they accept cell phones as part of their Gadget to Gift Cards program.
In fact, Walmart’s partnership with CExchange (which handles Walmart’s trade-in) appears to have started in 2013 with a mobile phone trade-in program.
Currently, Walmart accepts 17 different manufacturers, including Apple, Microsoft, Google, HTC, and Samsung.
I think it’s interesting that they also accept obsolete brands like Blackberry, Kyocera, Nokia and Razer!
You can find a full list of acceptable phone manufacturers here.
The second option for Walmart’s mobile phone transactions are ecoATM kiosks, where customers can exchange their phones for cash.
You can even look up prices before you go, and the site will help you find a kiosk near you. If there’s a Walmart near you, there’s a good chance you own an ecoATM.
What can I get with a trade-in at Walmart?
Walmart trade-in values vary by product, make, and model.
For example, an Apple Macbook is one of those high-priced items that can fetch up to $1,100 (retails for $1,800 new!).
The Fitbit Ace device will only net you $1 at best on the low end.
The best way to find out what your gear is worth (to Walmart anyway) is to check out their Gadget to Gift Cards website and look it up.
