When you’re making a large purchase, sometimes it’s easier to split the payment between different credit/debit cards. Many retailers allow customers to do this easily.
This begs the question, does Amazon allow its customers to split payments across multiple cards? Or you can only buy items on the site with one payment method at a time?

How do I add an Amazon gift card to my Amazon account?
If you want to add a gift card to your Amazon account, you can take these simple steps:
- Select the “Gift Cards” option at the top of the Amazon screen, then “Apply to your account”
- Enter the claim code located on your Amazon gift card and proceed to checkout as usual.
If you plan to spend a lot of money on a purchase and want to spread it out, you can buy multiple gift cards to spread more evenly between your gift cards and credit cards.
How do I split payments on Amazon using a gift card?
If you want to split your purchases with different Amazon gift cards, you can take the following steps:
- Buy Amazon.com gift cards at retail stores or at Amazon’s card kiosks. Make sure to buy as many gift cards as possible to cover the cost of the product you’re buying.
- Add the item to your cart and make sure you have enough money on your gift card for this purchase.
- From here, you can add the gift card code to your account. Select “Gift Cards” at the top of the screen. After entering the code, click “Apply to your account”.
- Once the gift card has been applied to your account, you can proceed to checkout. On the Payment Methods screen, select the gift card you’d like to request for purchase.
- After adding the gift card, you can add a credit/debit card for the second payment method.
- Review your order and checkout.
This will allow you to “split” payments for your Amazon purchases using the gift card and your credit/debit card.
Can I split payments on Amazon using a Visa/MasterCard gift card?
Amazon allows customers to pay in installments using their own Amazon gift cards, but not prepaid Visa or Mastercard.
Visa and MasterCard gift cards work the same way as regular credit cards, so Amazon accepts it like any other credit/debit card and doesn’t allow installment payments.
Prepaid credit cards do not come with codes, like Amazon gift cards, and are entered at checkout just like a credit card.
