Does FedEx deliver to your door? (porches, doorsteps, hiding spots + more)
Subsidiaries disclose: We may receive commissions for links in this article.
With the booming e-commerce industry, people are receiving more packages than ever before. Delivering the latest sweater, computer or water bottle is, no doubt, convenient, but not without its risks.
In fact, porch pirates patrol the block looking for packages to steal. Given this threat, consumers want to know where FedEx and other couriers are putting their packages in the safest place. In this article, we’ll explore that question!
Will FedEx deliver to your door in 2022?
FedEx will deliver to your door as long as your address is correct and no signature is required in 2022. The driver chooses a delivery location that is not affected by the street and the weather. This can be the front door, side door, garage or other location. Customers can request specific delivery locations using the FedEx Delivery Manager tool.

Can FedEx deliver to your door?
In most cases, FedEx will try to deliver your package directly to your door (at least on the first delivery attempt).
For many residences, the front door is a great delivery location.
The homeowner can see the package prominently enough, but not so conspicuous as to draw undue attention from a thief.
It’s worth noting, though, that FedEx doesn’t always deliver directly to your door.
In practice, drivers try to put the package in a place hidden from Street View and protected from the weather. To do this, they may place your package near the side door, porch, or garage.
Does FedEx deliver to your door or mailbox?
If FedEx drivers had to choose between home delivery or mailboxes, they would deliver.
One reason is that most items delivered by FedEx are packages. Even small packages are unlikely to fit into a regular mailbox.
But more importantly, it’s actually illegal for FedEx to touch your mailbox in most cases.
By law, mailboxes are owned by the United States Postal Service (USPS), and only that organization can use them.
There is one exception to this rule – shipments sent via FedEx Ground Economy Shipping. The program is a collaborative effort between FedEx and USPS.
So FedEx can deliver Ground Economy packages to mailboxes, however, given the size of most packages, that’s still unlikely.
Why does FedEx leave packages at the door?
Drivers choose delivery locations based on how protected a location is, including streets and elements. In many cases, this happens to be the front or side door.
While some customers may expect FedEx to be able to deliver it to their mailbox, this is not possible.
USPS owns the mailboxes, so FedEx is prohibited from accessing them, so they have to find an alternate drop-off location.
Will FedEx deliver the back door?
If you are away from home when FedEx arrives, you can use FedEx Delivery Manager to set your delivery preferences.
For example, you can tell FedEx where you want your package delivered (such as a back door, side door, or garage).
Can I apply to FedEx for a drop-off location?
Like the previous question, the FedEx Delivery Manager tool allows you to make one-time or long-term instructions about your deliveries.
For example, you can ask to leave your belongings behind a large planter on the porch or next to the grill near the back door.
You can also request a drop-off location by calling 1-800-463-3339.
Should FedEx be knocking on the door?
Since not all FedEx drivers will deliver the package to the same location, it may take a few days for you to realize that you have received the package.
That’s why many FedEx customers wonder if drivers should knock or ring the doorbell when delivering packages.
The answer seems to be “it depends”. Some drivers may extend this courtesy (especially if they’re not too busy and know you personally), but others won’t.
Fortunately, you can control this by requesting a knock or bell in the FedEx Delivery Manager tool.

in conclusion
In most cases, FedEx Delivery drivers will deliver packages to your door as long as the package is not visible on the street and is not affected by the weather. If you would like to request a more discreet delivery location, please use the FedEx Delivery Manager tool.
