What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a system. It is not a credit card per se.but the phone digital wallet Payment services provided by Apple Inc. It allows users to pay in person, through an app or online (using their mobile phone).
Apple Pay is only available on Apple devices, and it exists on your phone as a digital copy of your credit card. It can be used anywhere contactless payments are accepted.
This is because Apple Pay just uses an already existing technology (called NFC technology).
Users assume (Apple hopes) that they can use Apple Pay anywhere they shop, which is theoretically true. First, however, users need to set up Apple Pay on their phone, and stores must adopt and approve Apple Pay as an acceptable payment method.
It also means that participating apps and websites must adopt the Apple Pay API, the “application programming interface” that allows “conversations” between the two apps.
Some stores and chains, like Walmart, don’t accept Apple Pay because they’re working on other forms of digital payment systems.
Would it be better to use Apple Pay?
Apple Inc claims that Apple Pay is faster, more convenient, and most importantly, more secure than other payment methods.
Apple Pay is designed to replace the need to carry around a bunch of physical credit cards. That means you can just pull out your phone (instead of searching through your entire wallet or bag) to make a purchase.
If you use Apple Pay, cashiers won’t be able to see your credit card number, name, address, or any other personal information, making it more secure than traditional payment methods.
The system is easy to set up, and Apple insists the in-store checkout process is streamlined.
All you have to do is make sure the store (or website) displays the Apple Pay icon at checkout.
How do I know if I can use Apple Pay?
Just look for the Apple Pay icon anywhere you shop. It looks like an apple with the word “Pay” next to it, and it’s all surrounded by a rounded rectangle. Icons are always the same size, always black and white, and always have white space around the marker.
Apple doesn’t allow merchants to change the format, design, or color of their icons, so you’ll always be looking for the same little icon.
Apple also encourages stores to advertise their adoption of Apple Pay. This means that if you are a member, hopefully you will receive a message, email, banner or some form of news announcement.

Menchie’s accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover for all online cake orders and purchases. In-store, you can use any of these by adding cash, debit cards, and/or store gift cards.
Please note that you cannot use store gift cards to make online purchases at Menchie’s. Also note that on Menchie’s website, there’s no mention of Apple Pay as a digital payment option.
Apple Support says some stores may display the symbol on their card readers and point-of-sale terminals, but may not actually be set up to accept contactless payments in the form of Apple Pay.
They recommend letting them know if you can’t use Apple Pay at a store that displays the payment symbol.
How to use Apple Pay?
First, when you’re in a retail store and approaching a point-of-sale system, look for the Apple Pay icon.
You must use Face ID or Touch ID to authenticate to the app on your phone. Tap your default credit card or tap to choose an alternate card. Hold the top of your iPhone against the contactless reader until you see the Done icon and a tick on the display.
Confirm completed payment with vibration and beep.
