Target is one of the most popular chains in America, especially among millennial women. With a decidedly upscale feel, Target is a large chain that ranks No. 8 in the United States with nearly 2,000 stores.
But what if you’re not near one of those 2,000 stores? Where can you shop and get similar products, atmosphere and prices? I have 15 stores like Target that you will want to check out!
Stores like Target in 2022
1. Walmart
As the king of big box stores, Walmart is similar to Target in a few different ways.
First, the selection types are very similar; you’ll find clothing, homewares, sports equipment, office supplies, and the entire grocery store in SuperCenters.
With this, Walmart is sure to try to attract women with disposable income and a thirst for affordable clothing and homewares.
The emphasis is on affordability; Walmart consistently undercuts Target in almost every category, including store-brand groceries.
That said, both stores offer store pickup options (as well as delivery options), but Target’s is much better.
With Target, you can place a pickup order and it will notify you when it’s ready (usually within two hours).
At Walmart, you have to schedule pickup, and same-day pickup is rarely available.
2. Amazon
If Walmart is the king of hypermarkets, Amazon is the king of the digital space.
In fact, pretty much anything you want at Target can be found on Amazon, often for less (or at least the same price).
However, shopping online on Amazon does have its downside, the lack of instant gratification.
That said, it’s better to shop on Amazon instead of Target when you’re not in a hurry, which means you don’t need these items today.
While Amazon does offer Prime One-Day Shipping on some items, in some markets you’re more likely to wait two to three days for your package to arrive.
3. Coles
Kohl’s is a department store that sells apparel, beauty products and homewares for the whole family.
It’s a great alternative to Target because while the two are relatively similar in price, Kohl’s is almost always running one sale or another.
Additionally, Kohl’s is very generous with coupons that can often be combined with the sale price.
On top of that, another thing that makes Kohl’s a good alternative to Target is its women’s fashion.
Like Target, Kohl’s collaborates with designers and celebrities to produce exclusive and affordable collections, such as Vera Wang’s upscale collections or the LC Lauren Conrad collection.
4. Costco
This one might surprise you, but if you’re shopping at Target’s grocery store and enjoy seeing all the upscale food styles, Costco is a great option.
Now, at Costco, you don’t get 6 ounces of chocolate almonds. You will get six pounds.
If you do the math, though, chances are you’ll pay less per ounce for a Costco tub than Target’s pouches.
But Costco also sells electronics, homewares, and even designer clothing at low prices, though its selection is more limited.
5. Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club is similar to Target and Costco is similar.
As a Walmart subsidiary, Sam’s Club sells bulk groceries, clothing, electronics, household items, and more at discounted prices.
For similar items, you end up buying more for a lower price per ounce or per pound than Target.
6. Aldi
If you like the oddity and selection of Target’s groceries, especially snacks, you’ll also enjoy a trip to Aldi.
As a result, fans of Bullseye Playground and Dollar Spot will especially appreciate what Aldi calls the Aisle of Shame or Aldi Finds aisle.
Here, Blink and Miss items come in and out weekly, offering a wide variety of quality items at super affordable prices.
For example, one week might see a special dark chocolate pretzel and kettlebell set, while another week might see a patio set and dill pickle popcorn.
Just like Bullseye Playground and Dollar Spot, it’s exciting to discover!
7. Boskov’s
Boscov’s is one of the best department stores around, and while the branding is different from Target, the two are very similar.
That said, Boscov’s focuses on clothing and beauty, and usually takes up the entire first floor. If there is a second floor, count on an affordable family friendly area.
But the coup is its stunning candy counter, which gives Boscov the whimsical feel of a retro department store.
8. Burlington
Formerly known as the Burlington Coat Factory, now the single name Burlington is a slightly less glamorous alternative to Target.
While the stores do have brand names, and if you dig a little you can often find hidden gems, most Burlington stores are cluttered.
That said, the Burlington store is full of discounted homewares, so if you’re looking for sheets or decor and don’t want to pay the target price, check out Burlington.
9. At home
At Home’s prices are actually comparable to Target’s — “premium discount” is a good word.
Additionally, knickknacks and snack lovers will love the aisle leading to the checkout, where you’ll find stationery, tabletop electronics, decorations and many edible items.
10. Marshalls and TJ Maxx (& 11 on the list)
Marshalls and TJ Maxx ranked 10th and 11th, respectively, because the same parent company, TJX Companies, owns both stores and offers a similar shopping experience to Target.
At both stores, you’ll find discounted designer clothing, homewares, and accessories.
However, Marshalls has a wider selection of furniture and even some gourmet snacks.
12. Sim
This one might surprise you because it’s primarily a clothing-based digital retailer.
But female shoppers who run to Target looking for wedding gowns or new-season clothing are also buying Shein.
That said, the Shein niche is ultra-affordable, trendy fast-fashion clothing, and in most cases, you can find similar dresses on Shein for half or a third of the price at Target.
Also, this is especially true for plus sizes, a demographic that traditionally has to spend more on well-fitting fashion-forward clothing.
13. H&M
Another fast-fashion-focused retailer, H&M offers a wide selection of men’s and children’s clothing (except women’s) at prices comparable to Target.
In addition, the Swedish company has also ventured into the home furnishing space, all of which are characterized by the minimalist clean lines and solid colors of its brand.
14. IKEA
One of the things people love about Target is its homewares section, with styles ranging from minimalist to minimalist, quirky to romantic.
That said, IKEA’s selection of home goods is very similar, and the company specializes in that.
While all of its products reflect the Swedish company’s tasteful, sometimes restrained, playful style, IKEA’s affordable prices and clever designs make its products a must-have.
15. Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s is another grocery store that caters to its target demographic.
The crowd wondered, “What if you turned Target’s funniest and most creative store-brand snacks into a full-fledged grocery store?”
Additionally, Trader Joe’s store brand items can be compared to anything from Target (Favorite Day, Market Pantry, Good & Gather).
In fact, 80% of Trader Joe’s inventory is store brand, so you can get more choice on affordable items.

in conclusion
If you don’t have a goal or can’t reach your goal for some reason, Walmart is your closest approximation.
However, all of the other stores listed here cater to and even extend Target’s many different divisions, including gourmet groceries, affordable clothing, and designer electronics.
