What is an Amazon Hub Locker and How Do I Use an Amazon Locker?
Amazon Central Lockers are secure, self-service kiosks that allow you to pick up items at a convenient location and time. You can use them anytime, including evenings and weekends. In short, they provide Amazon with an alternative location to deliver your package if you don’t want to receive it at your residence or business location.
If you want to use one of these lockers, all you need to do is add an Amazon locker to your Amazon address book. Then, during the checkout process for your item, select that locker location as your shipping address. Once your package is ready to be picked up, Amazon will send you an email with a unique 6-digit code. You can then enter this code into the locker center to get the package from its designated slot. It’s that simple!
Find a locker near you
Amazon has thousands of hub lockers in more than 900 cities and towns in the US (not to mention the world!). So if you want to find a locker station nearby, you probably don’t have to go very far. To search for an Amazon locker near you or add a locker to your address book, simply enter your address information on Amazon’s website.
Benefits of Using Amazon Locker
There are several benefits to receiving your Amazon package at a locker rather than directly at your residence. We list the main ones below.
Lockers add a layer of security to your package
Since lockers are secure locations that can only be opened by customers with a given access code, you gain extra security for your deliveries. These Amazons protect your packages from “porch pirates,” or individuals who steal packages from your porch. Unfortunately, as the number of U.S. home deliveries increases year by year, the threat of package theft grows.
Amazon Locker is free to use
Aside from the extra security, another huge advantage of using Amazon lockers is that they cost no money! When you choose a locker as your shipping address, Amazon doesn’t add any extra charges to your order or shipping.
You can also return returns to Amazon in the Hub locker
One final benefit of using an Amazon locker is that you can put your returns in it too! If you’re far from the delivery location, that’s fine too; if you’re returning a package to Amazon, you can put it in any locker, no matter where Amazon originally delivered it.
You can’t use Amazon Locker to receive mail
Unfortunately, you can’t receive regular regular mail in an Amazon hub locker. These lockers are for Amazon deliveries and returns only. If you want to receive mail in a secure location other than your residential address, you should consider renting a PO box at your local post office (if possible). This guide details how to rent a PO Box from USPS.
a potential disadvantage
The only downside to using an Amazon locker is that you only have three days to pick up your order. These lockers are open to the public (or anyone using Amazon, basically everyone at this point), so demand for them is high. Since Amazon requires these lockers for continuous delivery, they only give you 72 hours to pick up your order. If you don’t pick it up within that time frame, Amazon will ship your product back to the warehouse and you’ll be refunded.
