FedEx Transshipment Policy (Everything You Need to Know)
Maybe you want to move to another city for better opportunities, or a family situation brings you back to your hometown. Whatever the reason, you’re in a position where you’re going somewhere else and need to find a new job.
While you can apply for new positions, it’s much easier to move from one location to another. In this article, we’ll let you know if FedEx allows employee transfers, and if so, how they work!
2022 FedEx Transfer Policy
FedEx is allowing employees to move locations if they have been with the company for at least six months and have an open position as of 2022. It is easiest to transfer within the same carrier (Ground, Express or Freight). Transfers to different operating companies require employees to apply as external candidates.
Understanding FedEx’s forwarding policy can be confusing, but after reading this article you should understand it better!
Can you transfer from one FedEx to another?
FedEx allows its employees to move from one location to another as long as there is another position in the desired area.
That said, it is easiest to transfer within the same operating company (OpCo). For example, a ground employee can be transferred to another ground position without difficulty.
However, if you are a ground employee and want to transfer to a courier or freight position, the process is more complicated.
Essentially, FedEx does not consider moving between two different OpCos a transfer. Instead, FedEx employees are considered external candidates.
Having said that, given their previous experience working for the company, they may receive some preferential treatment over other external candidates.
How does the FedEx Transshipment Policy work?
When looking at FedEx’s transfer policy, it is first important to distinguish between transfers within the same operating company (OpCo) and transfers to different OpCos.
At FedEx, Ground, Express, and Freight are considered separate OpCos. That being said, FedEx Freight, Office, Supply Chain and Services share internal job postings.
In most cases, you will only see open positions listed in your own OpCo.
If you’re interested in applying for one of these positions, you usually need to apply (ie, you don’t just get the job).
However, given your on-the-job experience, you may receive preferential treatment over external candidates.
To apply for different positions in your OpCo, go to JCATS, FedEx’s online job posting system. Then, enter your name in the system.
When you do this, the system retrieves information about you from the Personnel Records and Information System (PRISM).
Based on job performance and years of service, each employee who posts a job receives a numerical score and applicants are ranked based on that score.
At the end of the week, the person with the highest score gets the job. However, if you wish to move to another OpCo, the process is different.
First, you must apply for open positions through the publicly available FedEx Careers page. Although you are still working at FedEx, you will be considered an external candidate.
Still, your experience working at another FedEx OpCo will be appreciated.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that just because you applied externally, doesn’t mean you’re not technically transferred.
For example, Ground has a transfer policy that allows employees of other OpCos to retain tenures that count towards annual leave.
Likewise, pensions and retirement benefits are provided by FedEx and transferred with employees.
How long do you have to work at FedEx to transfer locations?
As a new employee, you must be in your original job for at least six months before you can transfer.
During this time, you must pass the trial period. In the simplest terms, this means meeting job expectations and not being late.
After you receive your review scores, you can apply to other departments or jobs.

in conclusion
If you’re a senior FedEx employee looking to transfer to an open position at your operating company, the transfer process is a piece of cake.
That is, you can apply for open positions by visiting the company’s internal job posting list.
On the other hand, if you wish to make the leap between one operating company and another, you will apply as an external candidate.
But don’t be discouraged; your vacation, pension and retirement benefits will be with you.
