Why Can’t I Activate My Cash App Card (7 Reasons + Fixes)

1. You do not have a verified account
To receive cash cards from Cash App, you need to have a verified account by providing your date of birth, full name and the last digit of your SSN.
Again, you need to be at least 18 years old to be verified.
However, if you successfully obtain a Cash App card but have not met these requirements, you will not be able to activate the card or use the app.
So make sure you verify your account with the correct details and information to enjoy all Cash App services.

2. Damaged QR code
To activate your cash card, you need to scan the QR code. Therefore, if you cannot activate the card, the QR code may have been tampered with.
The QR code scanner only recognizes and reads the white part; therefore, if the surface is scratched, you will not be able to activate the Cash App Card using the QR option.
Fortunately, if the QR code doesn’t work, you can still activate the cash card with the CVV code.
To do this, open the Cash Cards tab on the home page, click on the Cash Card image and select “Activate Cash Card”.
Click “Use CVV instead” and enter the card’s CVV code and expiration date. This will activate your card.
3. You did not scan the QR code correctly
Another reason could be that you didn’t follow the correct steps to scan the QR code. Your Cash App card and details may be correct, but you have verified the card incorrectly.
So if you find that the QR code doesn’t work, double check that you’re doing it correctly before trying other methods.
To activate your Cash Card using the QR code, click on the Cash Cards tab on the home page, select the Cash Card image, and click “Activate Cash Card”.
Your app will request permission to use the camera, tap OK, then scan the QR code. If you follow these steps correctly, you will activate the card unless it is damaged.
4. Problems with Cash App server
When activating the card, you need the Cash App server to work properly. If the website encounters technical issues while you are trying to activate your cash card, it will not work properly.
To confirm if the server is down, you can check sites that provide this information, such as shutdown detectors.
Additionally, you can check the Cash App’s status page to confirm if there are internal issues with Cash Card activation.
In this case, you must be patient and wait for Cash App to resolve the issue. After the server is backed up, you can retry the verification process.
5. Security reasons
Cash App will not allow you to activate the card if there is a security issue with your account, especially if you have violated the terms of service.
Many customers get an error message when trying to activate their card.
Cash App is deactivated to investigate any security issues that pose a risk to the platform or other users.
When this happens, you have to wait a few days before trying again. If there are no problems, Cash App will allow you to activate the Cash Card.
6. Incorrect details
If the information you provide is different, Cash App will not allow you to activate your Cash App Card.
For example, if you try to use a cash card but are under legal age, the cash app will disable you once they learn of it.
