Is Aldi coming to Colorado (plans, potential locations and more)
It’s always disappointing when you see people all over the country enjoying stores that aren’t available in your area. For some of us, that’s Costco; for others, Trader Joe’s. For a handful of people in 12 states (at this time), that store is Aldi.
While Aldi is already well-known in most of the United States, Colorado is one of the states the company has yet to set foot in.
This might surprise a lot of people, since cities like Denver and Boulder are pretty famous. So, will Aldi be coming to Colorado anytime soon? continue reading.
Is Aldi coming to Colorado?
Aldi has no plans to expand into Colorado, Denver or Boulder. Instead, the grocery chain is focusing its construction on the Gulf Coast, while renovating and refurbishing existing stores in the Northeast and East Coast.
To find out why I don’t think Aldi is coming to Colorado, some cities the chain would do well if they did, and even some suggestions to speed up progress and let Aldi know they exist, see below!
Why isn’t Aldi coming to Colorado?
Aldi has publicly confirmed their intention to focus on the Gulf Coast and Florida, while devoting part of their multi-billion dollar budget to renovating and refurbishing existing stores in the Northeast and East Coast.
Louisiana is Aldi’s 38th state, with Mississippi and Alabama also included in the expansion, which is being boosted by a distribution warehouse in Loxley. Break ground there in February 2021.
Unfortunately, Colorado hasn’t been part of any targeted territories so far, despite being adjacent to several states that already have Aldi stores. So hopeful fans of the chain will have to keep waiting.
Where in Colorado can Aldi open stores?
I have to say; surprisingly, Colorado doesn’t have any Aldi stores yet, considering the state’s populous (and popular) cities.
The capital, Denver, and the nearby cities of Aurora and Boulder are ripe for development. Fort Collins to the north and Colorado Springs south of Denver would be another great location.
Is there a market for an Aldi store in Colorado?
If you’re judging by the buzz on social media, there’s definitely a market for an Aldi store in Colorado. A Facebook thread (from 2016, no less than 200 comments) contains many hopefuls imploring the chain to return to their state.
One commenter lamented, “Why isn’t Colorado on Aldi’s radar?”; another simply said, “ALDI USA, we’re all waiting.”
One particularly enterprising reviewer was very specific: “I found a great location: square footage, easy truck access and loading docks, and good parking. When the Halloween spirit leaves, just take Start the lease. [Address redacted.]”
Still, another commenter left a clue as to why Aldi is so popular in CO: “Moved to CO from Illinois, all I miss from that awful state is ALDI…King Soopers And Safeway sucks. There’s no way to budget in these crazy expensive places.”
Despite these pleas, Aldi has not moved into the state as of 2021, and that desire has only increased.
For example, in 2018, Coloradoan ran a report titled Top 5 Retail Stores and Restaurants in Fort Collins, and Aldi came in at No. 4.
How can shoppers get Aldi to come to Colorado?
Aldi is notorious for listening to its shoppers. When they clamored to keep all bagel seasoning for now, they brought it back—and created two other flavors.
Even recently, they announced that their $3.99 candles will be sold in-store year-round at the request of customers.
So when it comes to bringing Aldi stores to Colorado, numbers will prevail. Start reaching out to them on a regular basis — and get all your friends to do the same — about your desire to see an Aldi store pop up in Colorado.
You can contact them via email or snail mail here.

in conclusion
While Aldi won’t be coming to Colorado anytime soon, the time that many believe they should be is long gone.
With big, prosperous cities and lots of potential shoppers constantly asking on their social media pages, Aldi would do well to include CO in their next expansion plans.
