Aldi Bread (Prices, Bread Types, Quality, Best Bread, Suppliers & More)
When something is great, we say it’s “the best thing since sliced bread”. Bread is probably one of the most ubiquitous things we buy when grocery shopping, as its many applications—toast, sandwiches, crumbs—satisfy our love of carbohydrates.
Visit an Aldi supermarket and you’ll see a huge range of breads, but you might be surprised how many varieties Aldi has on its shelves on any given day. Here’s what you need to know about Aldi bread before heading to the store.
Aldi Bread
Aldi sells more than 30 different types of bread under its L’oven Fresh, Specially Selected, Simply Nature, Fit & Active and liveGfree labels. These products include basic white and wheat, hamburger and hot dog rolls, dessert breads, high-end bakery-style breads, and seedless and organic breads. Prices range from 69 cents to $5.49.

What kind of bread does Aldi have?
As mentioned, Aldi sells bread under five private labels. Below you’ll find a synopsis organized by tag, the price listed, and any related notes.
L’oven fresh
L’oven Fresh covers Aldi’s range of basic bread and bakery products, priced to match.
- 100% Whole Wheat or Multigrain Sandwich Tights — $1.65 for 12 oz; a great alternative to sliced bread and a con for Arnold’s sandwich slices.
- 12-Grain Loaf Wide Pan — $1.75 for 24 oz; a larger, sturdier loaf that holds more toppings.
- Artisan Bread—$2.09 for 20 oz; a lovely loaf that mimics the kind you get at your local bakery. These loaves are dense and make really good sandwiches.
- Center Split Deli Rolls – $1.69 for 15-16 oz. (6 ct); I like to use these for hot dogs when you want to add a lot of toppings, or for sausage, peppers and onions on the grill. They are firm and bake well.
- Cinnamon Raisin or Cinnamon Swirl Bread – $1.79 for 16 oz; these make great slices of sweet toast and taste great with just butter.
- Garlic Knots – $2.75 for 10.4 oz; perfect accompaniment to pasta and meatballs.
- Burgers – 79 cents for 11-12 oz; the ultimate cheap bun, they’re not very strong or huge, but they get the job done.
Sometimes these are sold as Aldi Savers for as little as 50 cents a bag; keep an eye out during summer BBQs!
- Hawaiian Sweet Rolls — $1.39 for 12 oz; Love King’s Hawaiian Rolls? Aldi has its own designer range, so you don’t need to make a trip to another supermarket.
- Honey Wheat Bread – 95 cents for 20 oz; such a bargain at 95 cents; honey wheat is a slightly sweeter version of wheat.
- Hot Dog Bread – 79 cents for 11-12 oz; another super cheap bread option, perfect for stocking up when you have a big BBQ coming up. These hot dog buns aren’t as flimsy as expected, and they’re just 79 cents.
- Keto Friendly Wheat or Multiseed Bread—$3.99 for 14 oz; You’ll be even more impressed with this keto bread (and the fact that Aldi offers keto-friendly bread) when you see the price comparison below.
- Split Top Wheat Bread – 69 cents for 20 oz; this is the cheapest bread Aldi sells, and while it might not be the best choice for a large sandwich, it’s a great deal on wheat bread, especially if you have Children’s words.
- White bread – 79 cents for 20 ounces; from sister white bread to Aldi’s cheap whole wheat bread, in short classic. Made exclusively for bologna sandwiches or grilled cheese.
- Zero Net Carb Bread – $2.99 for 14 oz; this started as an Aldi Find, but it seems to be popular so they kept it! (Love Aldi for doing that.)
Keep an eye out for it; it’s in high demand, so stores sell out quickly.
Recommended
The Specially Selected label covers many different types of products (not just bread), but here you can see their breads, rolls and buns with gourmet-style international offerings.
- Artisan Flatbread – $2.99 for 14.1 oz. (2 pack); Whether you’re cooking in the oven or on the grill, these flatbreads make a great pizza base.
- Brioche Bread — $3.65 for 10.58 oz; Nothing elevates a sandwich or a cheeseburger like a brioche bun (a French bread that’s high in butter and eggs, giving it a “more mellow” quality). “firm” texture). Try baking them!
- Brioche Hot Dog Bun – $2.89 for 9.52 oz; Also for hot dogs, the brioche bun adds some sort of je ne sais quoi (again, toasted before serving for extra flavor and texture).
- Butter Roll – $3.90 for 16.9 oz. (12 ct); A truly special accent that will complement your next family dinner or holiday meal.
- Chocolate Brioche – $3.99 for 14.11 oz; I couldn’t find an exact price for this item, but it’s the price for a similar item (brioche, same weight loaf) and Aldi’s pricing is fairly consistent.
- Ciabatta Sandwich Rolls—$2.69 for 18 oz; Aldi makes excellent ciabatta bread, and if you usually eat sandwiches on white or wheat bread, these rolls are a delightful change.
- Baguette – $1.65 for 9.5 – 12 oz; the baguette is a true classic, perfect with soup or salad, or just torn off a chunk of bread and served with cheese (you can’t go wrong here).
Aldi sells their baguettes as part of a range of ‘grab and bake’ breads that you can bake at home in your own oven, so you can control how crunchy or soft the finished product is.
- Italian Breads – $1.99 for 16 oz; Another Aldi “ready to bake” option, these Italian breads are really good and just the carb accompaniment you want with a big bowl of pasta.
- Plain/Garlic/Mini Naan Bread — $3.99 for 17.6 oz. (Original/Garlic) and 12.7 oz. (small ones); I absolutely love these naans. I use them to make pizza (in the oven and on the grill) and I lightly blacken them on a hot skillet (with olive oil) and dip them in hummus.
Aldi’s prices may seem a little high, but you’re getting a lot of bread; so much that you might end up having to freeze half of it. (It freezes and thaws really well!)
- Plain or Chocolate Chip Sliced Brioche Bread – $2.99 for 17.6 oz; an absolute brunch must-have – or imagine making French toast with this!
- Sliced Sourdough Round – $3.09 for 24 oz; most shoppers will appreciate this pre-sliced, but I wish they sold some sourdough bread as is. However, my personal opinion does not in any way detract from its excellent flavor.
pure nature
The Simply Nature label is Aldi’s preferred organic range and the number of products seems to be growing every year. These products are free from GMOs, artificial ingredients and preservatives.
- Simply Nature Oat So Healthy® Honey Oat Bread — $4.29 for 27 oz; Not only is the hearty bread organic, but all the protein comes from plant sources.
- Simply Nature Organic Seed Bread – Graintastic 21 Whole Grains with Seeds and Seed Jam, $4.29 for 27 oz; If you like the taste and texture of seeded bread, this organic bread will please you—and packs 5 grams of protein per slice.
- Simply Nature Sprouted 7 Grain Regular or Low Sodium Bread – $2.95 for 16 oz; I love that Aldi is always upping their game when it comes to special diets.
This is a prime example, as Knock Your Sprouts Off offers a low-sodium version for those trying to cut back on common additives.
Miscellaneous Tab
Aldi sells the bread under two other labels, both of which are suitable for special diets.
- Fit & Active 35 Calories 100% Whole Wheat Bread – $1.99 for 16 oz; Anyone who’s been on a weight loss program like WW’s knows that finding a bread that doesn’t cost a lot of points is a blessing.
I love that Aldi is making bread as part of its Fit & Active range, so people with weight loss goals don’t have to make a special trip (or spend a lot of money on special bread).
- liveGfree wide gluten-free bread—white or whole wheat, $5.49 for 20 oz; Aldi can go head-to-head with any other supermarket when it comes to gluten-free options. Wait until you see how much cheaper their Gravity Bread is.
Is Aldi bread good quality?
Aldi bread gets high marks from bloggers, reviewers and me.
On theKitchn.com, Jelisa Castrodale lists her five favorite Aldi breads, including the basic white, baguette, Fit & Active, brioche and sourdough.
Commenters on the post about the zero net carb bread raved about the taste and texture, some lamented that they would no longer be able to find it on the shelves (again: email Aldi and let them know! They listen to customers Views).
The authors of TasteofHome.com highlight the excellence of Aldi’s 100% Whole Wheat Bread in their list of Aldi’s Best Healthy Foods.
I can’t judge for you, but I can tell you that my personal experience with Aldi bread has been very positive.
I also freeze and thaw multiple types (hot dog and hamburger buns, instant bread, sourdough bread) and I can tell you that if you find a deal and want to stock up, everything has been out of the freezer so far, Months later, it is as good as the day I bought it.
Is Aldi Bread Cheap?
Aldi’s prices look cheap, but how do they compare to other supermarkets? Let’s look at a few examples.
A simple loaf of white bread is a staple in most home kitchens; Aldi sells it for 79 cents; Walmart’s Great Value label is 88 cents.
Aldi’s sandwich “skinnys” retail for $1.65 for a 6-pack of 12 ounces. pack; a similar product (the product that slimmers get scammed about), Arnold Sandwich Sheets, sells in packs of 6 at Walmart for $2.98. Save more than two dollars by buying the Aldi version.
Let’s also take a look at organic bread. Aldi’s Knock Your Sprouts Off bread is 18 cents an ounce; Wegmans’ organic sprouted multigrain bread is 23 cents an ounce.
Finally, gluten-free options. Aldi’s: $5.49 for 20 oz. (or 27 cents an ounce); Wegmans, more like $5.99 or $6.99 a loaf (or 33 cents and 44 cents an ounce, respectively).
What are the best Aldi breads?
You can’t go wrong with Aldi’s simple white bread, which costs just 79 cents a loaf.
However, I think the runner-up should be Take and Bake Italian Bread, as it is highly customizable, denser, thicker (holds up better in large sandwiches) and loses nothing when freezing and thawing.
Where does Aldi buy bread?
You might be wondering where Aldi gets their bread, since their stores apparently don’t have a bakery.
Many manufacturers and wholesalers can offer products under the same label, so sources vary.
