PetSmart Exchange Policy (Timeframe, Opened, No Receipt & More)
PetSmart sells a variety of pets, pet food, pet supplies, accessories and pet grooming services to pet lovers through its operations of more than 1,650 stores in North America.
But what if you want to exchange an item you purchased from PetSmart that you are not happy with? Don’t worry; here’s everything I found out about PetSmart’s exchange policy!
PetSmart Exchange Policy
PetSmart will replace nearly all products brought back to the store with a valid proof of purchase within 60 days. Customers must bring new or salable items with original packaging. In-store exchanges are available for both in-store and online purchases.
If you want to learn more about whether you can exchange items outside the 60-day window, exchange items without a receipt, and more, read on!
Can I exchange PetSmart after 60 days?
If you are seeking a replacement at PetSmart, you should try to stay within the 60-day window.
However, if the exchange window ends, you can still make an exchange as long as you bring the product back to your local store with a valid ID.
In this case, please remember that the product will be exchanged at the nearest sale price.
Additionally, acceptance of returns after 60 days is at the sole discretion of the store manager.
This means that any positive balance will be returned to you in the same manner as your original purchase (for example, in cash for an original cash payment).
Can I exchange an item at PetSmart without a receipt?
Even if you forget your receipt, you can still redeem your PetSmart purchases.
Exchanges without a receipt have the same policy as exchanges outside the 60 day period.
If you need to exchange goods without a receipt, you must bring the goods into the store with a valid ID card, and the exchange will be carried out at the latest sales price.
Note that if you have lost your receipt but have a PetSmart Rewards account, an employee can use your phone number to find your receipt.
Likewise, if you have an online account, you can find your order history for proof of purchase.
However, keep in mind that a receipt is required for redemption of selected items valued over $10, such as:
- Electronics such as collars, fencing and training supplies
- beauty tools
- filter or pump
- Over-the-counter medicines and vitamins
Can I exchange opened products at PetSmart?
PetSmart allows the exchange of opened products provided they are in salable condition. For example, opened pet food can be replaced within 14 days of purchase.
The retailer understands that food may not be suitable for your pet and allows a 14-day period to replace these products, even if opened.
Which products cannot be exchanged at PetSmart?
Although PetSmart exchanges many items, some items cannot be returned or exchanged.
This includes non-replaceable items such as prescription drugs bought in stores.
Can I replace a damaged item at PetSmart?
If a product purchased online or on the PetSmart app arrives or is found damaged or defective, you should contact customer service within 30 days of purchase.
To report a damaged or defective item, you will need to provide customer service with your order number, product number, email address and phone number.
Damaged or defective items will be exchanged in-store under the same guidelines as other exchanges, ie you will need to make the exchange within 60 days and provide proof of purchase.
