Do Ikea Lights Need Ikea Bulbs? (all you need to know)
IKEA’s range of lamps is huge and varied, making the retailer a popular choice for lighting, as they sell both lamps and bulbs.
I was wondering if IKEA lamps are only compatible with IKEA bulbs like other IKEA products. Here’s what I managed to find out!
Do Ikea Lights Need Ikea Bulbs?
IKEA lamps work best with light bulbs provided by IKEA. However, IKEA lamps can be used with bulbs sold by other retailers such as Walmart. IKEA lamps use standard bases, but LED bulbs are recommended for all IKEA lamps. However, IKEA lamps can be fitted with non-LED and non-IKEA bulbs if it is safe to do so.

What regular light bulbs can I use instead of IKEA light bulbs?
There are several options for common non-IKEA light bulbs that fit IKEA lamps. These include:
- IKEA E17 and IKEA E26 bulbs can be replaced with bulbs sold at Walmart, Home Depot, and Target.
- IKEA E12 and IKEA 14 equivalent bulbs are available at Walmart, Home Depot, and Amazon.
- The IKEA E27 bulb can replace bulbs sold by Walmart, Home Depot, and Amazon.

What kind of light bulbs does IKEA use?
As of 2015, IKEA only offers LED bulbs.
The retailer made the switch after determining that LED technology had advanced enough to be affordable as their only option for customers.
Are ikea light bulbs good?
IKEA’s affordable LED options are considered high quality, with reviewers pointing out that they’re not cheap.
In addition, IKEA customers find that IKEA LED bulbs are long-lasting, very energy-efficient and bright enough.
How long do IKEA light bulbs last?
Since all IKEA bulbs are LED, they have a very long lifespan. In most cases, LED bulbs last up to 50,000 hours, which makes them a better choice compared to other bulb types.
However, everything from daily usage, electrical stress, and ambient temperature can affect the lifespan of an LED bulb, and while most will last as long as the manufacturer claims, some may not.
Are IKEA light bulbs energy efficient?
Since all IKEA bulbs are LED bulbs, you save on energy costs.
According to IKEA, their bulbs use up to 85% less energy than other bulb types.
