Can I ship AA batteries through USPS?
As any shipper knows, shipping lithium-ion batteries is Process. In addition to following specific packaging regulations, you may only use ground shipping services such as USPS Parcel Select Ground and UPS Ground. Since USPS does not restrict dry batteries, you can ship AA batteries (and other similarly sized batteries) using any of the following domestic USPS shipping services:
- First Class Package
- Priority Mail
- Priority Mail Express
- Lot selection ground
How about sending AA batteries or AAA batteries internationally?
While the USPS has no restrictions on shipping AA batteries domestically, you cannot ship them (or any other alkaline batteries) internationally. Here’s what the USPS has to say about this, in the same section of Postal Explorer on Corrosives:
“Spill-proof batteries with UN2800 are prohibited in international mail.”
Unfortunately, because the USPS considers alkaline batteries (such as AA, AAA, C, and D) as “spill-proof” batteries, you can only ship them within the US, not internationally.
