Why aren’t dogs allowed in every Kohl’s store?
Kohl’s pet policy is not available on their website, so I reached out to several Kohl’s customer service agents to help answer this question.
One response I keep getting is, “It’s up to each store manager to allow pets in Kohl’s.”
So while many reports state that pets are not allowed in Kohl’s stores due to customer/employee allergy risk, it is ultimately up to each store manager.
Also, while every Kohl’s store is different, it seems like most store managers don’t allow dogs/pets because they want to prevent any health and safety issues.
How do I know if my local Kohl’s allows dogs in the store?
Kohl’s Customer Service urges customers to contact the nearest Kohl’s in their area and a store manager can provide you with their local pet policy.
This can be done via virtual chat, phone call or email to your local Kohl’s with the assistance of a Kohl’s Customer Service Agent.

This condition should not be confused with emotional support animals, which are not permitted at every Kohl’s location.
Can Kohl’s ask if your pet is a service animal?
Kohl’s may be permitted to ask if your pet is a service animal. However, they do not have the authority to request service animal verification, such as paperwork.

If I need a service animal, can Kohl’s refuse to serve me?
Kohl’s reserves the right to refuse service to customers with service animals only for good cause. According to the ADA, this includes:
- Animals behaving in a manner that shows signs of danger and poses a threat to customers and staff

If a Kohl’s employee attempts service and their reason does not fall into the above categories, they cannot prevent you or your animal from entering the store.
