Kroger dress code (hats, shorts, hair, tattoos, etc.)
Large retail companies tend to have a set dress code for their employees so that customers can easily find them in-store and ask for help, as this fosters a strong sense of identity among employees.
So if you’re wondering about the dress code for Kroger, the second-largest retail chain in the United States and an employer of approximately 500,000 employees, you’re in the right place. Here’s what I found about Kroger’s dress code!

Does Kroger have employee uniforms?
Kroger employees are required to wear aprons while on the job to show they are serving customers.
In April 2019, Kroger made changes to its employee dress code policy and mandated that all employees and employees should wear blue aprons embroidered with rainbow hearts.
Aprons must be tied around the neck and tied at the waist at all times while employees are at work.
Under the uniform, employees may wear their own collared shirts (short or long sleeve, solid color or tasteful pattern).
While some employees insist that aprons do make them look uncomfortable and funny, and can sometimes pose a safety hazard, Kroger management explained that its uniform policy is not in dispute.
What shirt or top can you wear as a Kroger employee?
While employees are no longer required to wear Kroger blue shirts, they can still wear them as long as they are clean.
Other types of shirts permitted include appropriate Kroger logo shirts and other types of Kroger logo apparel.
Additionally, employees may wear a smart casual crew neck shirt or smart casual crew neck shirt in solid colors or tasteful patterns.
Please note that all permitted shirts and tops must be free of graphics, logos, initials, text or non-Kroger logos.
Beyond that, Kroger doesn’t allow tank tops, crop tops, camouflage, sheer shirts, and muscle shirts.
What types of pants and skirts are you allowed to wear as a Kroger employee?
Under the new dress code policy, all Kroger employees and associates may wear jeans or pants in the base color (blue, black, khaki) that are in good condition and free from stripes, clipping, fraying or holes.
Female workers may wear skirts of a solid color (blue, black or khaki) without any cuts or holes, but capri pants, leggings, leggings or yoga pants are not permitted.
Additionally, Kroger does not prohibit the use of shorts, as many employees wear them. Note, however, that all trousers, jeans and shorts must stay at the hip or waist.
Does Kroger allow employee tattoos and piercings?
Kroger employees are free to tattoo, but face tattoos are unlikely to be allowed, especially on customer-facing servers.
Supervisors and other employees are allowed to have tattoos on their arms, but only in moderation and avoiding tattoos.
As for piercings, Kroger doesn’t have any policy restricting the use of earrings, nose rings, and other piercings.
However, if you’re preparing for an interview, you might want to hide the ones that are too obvious, and then find out from your co-workers when you get the job whether those are permissible.
Note that these rules may vary slightly if you work with any Kroger Company subsidiary.
For example, there were reports that employees working at Fred Meyers were not allowed to wear any piercings other than earrings.
Does Kroger allow employees to wear hats?
Kroger allows employees to wear hats, but only Kroger-approved hats. The rule states “Approved,” meaning the hat must not have art, print, or logos other than the Kroger logo (if the hat has one).
In addition, hats must always be clean and properly worn, i.e. the brim of the hat must not be on the side or back of the head.
Does Kroger allow different/unnatural hair colors?
Kroger employees can wear any color hair, like tattoos, but it’s important to proceed with caution.
As long as the hair is kept neat, clean, and a nice color, the staff should have no problem managing it.
What kind of shoes does Kroger allow employees to wear?
For safety reasons, Kroger employees must wear shoes with closed toes and closed heels, Kroger management said.
Additionally, those working in the perishable sector must wear approved non-slip footwear or crew protective soles provided by management.
