Walmart TV Warranty (Make a Claim, Types of TVs Covered, Damage + Price)
While the prices of even the most important, state-of-the-art TVs have dropped dramatically over the years, these entertainment containers are still a significant investment for many of us, and we want to protect our technology with warranties and protection plans.
Walmart is a major TV seller and offers a variety of warranties on your new purchase. Here’s an overview of Walmart’s TV warranty and protection programs.
Walmart TV Warranty and Protection Program
Walmart sells a warranty that covers every size TV sold online and in stores. Shoppers can choose between two-year and five-year plans ranging in price from $10 to $132, depending on the TV. Warranties can be purchased for new and refurbished models with protection plans offered by Allstate or Asurion.

What Types of TVs Are Covered by the Walmart TV Warranty?
Walmart’s TV warranty and protection program covers nearly every TV they sell, including numerous makes and models, 4K UHD, 4K, 1080p, new and refurbished (though not all refurbished), and covers all price points.
To see if the TV you want is included, go to the Walmart website, find the TV you’re interested in, and visit the product page.
If a protection plan is associated with it, that information will appear as “Additional Services” near the top of the list.
Some TVs come in a variety of different length options; of course, options with longer coverage are more expensive.
What Does the Walmart TV Warranty Cover?
While there are two different companies offering warranties for Walmart TVs at this time (Allstate post-2018 and Asurion pre-2018), they both cover the same things:
- screen glitch
- remote failure
- speaker failure
- TV won’t turn on
More specifically, the warranty website states: “Your TV is covered under warranty against mechanical and electrical failures due to normal use. Accidental damage, willful damage, loss and theft are not covered.”
So if you put down the TV; if someone vents their anger on the TV; if someone breaks into your home and steals the TV; if the TV is lost during a cross-country move…unfortunately, none of these are covered by insurance .
But if one day you try to turn on your TV and it won’t – you have a claim.
How much is the Walmart TV warranty?
Walmart TV warranty prices vary based on the length of the plan, the condition of the TV, and the price of the TV.
I’ve included some examples below, but as you can see, they start out pretty cheap for the cheaper models and can be very expensive – the cost of buying a smaller TV! – for high-end models.
The best way to find out how much you can pay for a protection plan is to find the TV or TVs you’re interested in buying, visit their Walmart product page, and find the relevant plan listed under Add – Service.

Do you have to activate your Walmart TV warranty?
When you buy a TV protection plan at Walmart, you don’t have to “activate” it — the purchase itself activates it and takes effect immediately, so you don’t need to take any extra steps.
What’s the key to filing a claim with the fewest speed bumps? Take your receipt.
How do you file a claim through the Walmart TV warranty?
Walmart and its warranty partners Allstate (claims serviced by its subsidiary SquareTrade) and Asurion (for TVs purchased before 2018) have made warranty claims an easy process that can be done online.
First, find your receipt and keep the product nearby.
Then, visit the Squaretrade Walmart Protection Plan website (for TVs purchased after 2018) or the Asurion website (for TVs purchased before 2018).
Go through the process (the website will guide you), and in many cases, the claim will be approved quickly. If not, a representative will contact you for further action.
If your TV can be repaired, we will send a repairman to your home to fix it. If not, a replacement will be sent to you.
Can You Make a Walmart TV Warranty Claim Without a Receipt?
You can’t make a Walmart TV warranty claim without a receipt (applies to any TV brand, including Samsung, Philips, Vizio, Hisense, TCL, LG, Sceptre, etc.) — but if you lose your receipt, you can get one Copy of receipt (only if you used a debit or credit card).
Just call Walmart’s e-Payment hotline at 479-277-2643 and provide the store location and date/time of purchase, along with the card number on hand.
Even better if you charged the card for the total amount during that transaction as well.
Walmart will take this information, find your receipt and send you a copy.
Can I add a Walmart TV warranty after purchase?
After purchasing a TV at Walmart, you have up to 30 days to add a protection plan.
Visit Walmart.com and click “Go to Your Account” under “Protect Your Purchase” (if ordering online, make sure you’re logged into Walmart.com).
If you buy in-store, you can download Walmart’s app and add your receipt.
This will allow you to purchase a warranty for the TV you previously purchased.
Does the Walmart TV Warranty Cover Accidental Damage?
Unfortunately, Walmart’s TV warranty program doesn’t cover accidental damage.
So even if you have a protection plan in place, you still need to be careful with your new TV because knocking it off its stand, dropping it on the floor, or your kids kicking it with a football… none of that is covered.
Does the Walmart TV Warranty Cover Theft?
Home theft is a scary situation, and unfortunately the Walmart TV Protection Plan does not cover your TV from being stolen.
Is the Walmart TV Warranty Worth It?
In one of Walmart’s protection programs, 95% of shoppers recommend the warranty.
“The whole process of filing a claim was quick and easy. I was satisfied with the result in less than 24 hours,” wrote one user.
Another said: “The program is well worth it…the instructions for making a claim are clear and straightforward. The support team are very helpful.”
However, one distraught buyer said he gave the warranty one star, saying, “Accidental damage is not covered. It was knocked off the TV cabinet.” Unfortunately, this person should have read more carefully Conditions of protection plan.
Another complained: “Don’t pay for the TV! It won’t cover the damaged screen as advertised!”
However, the 38 one-star ratings are in stark contrast to the 1,117 five-star ratings.
It appears Walmart TV warranties are worth the cost and the trend to get claims approved and give customers the support and satisfaction they need.

in conclusion
Walmart TV warranties (or protection plans) can be a good investment for both new and refurbished TVs, and can cost anywhere from a dozen dollars to over $100, depending on the price of the TV, its condition, and the length of the plan.
While these plans don’t cover accidental damage or theft, frustrating moments like a black screen or a remote that stops working (no matter how many times you replace the batteries) can usually be easily resolved within 24 hours.
