Walmart’s OTC Card Eligible Items (Everything You Need to Know)
Some seniors and people with disabilities may not realize how helpful their OTC (over-the-counter) cards can be for saving money on health supplements and medications at Walmart.
So if you have an OTC card, you might be wondering which products you can buy at Walmart and which ones aren’t eligible. I’ve researched this problem and here’s what I’ve found!
Walmart OTC Card Eligible Products
Seniors and people with disabilities who are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan receive an OTC card that they can use to buy health care products and medicines at Walmart. Depending on your plan, you can use your OTC card to purchase items such as post-op braces, braces and incontinence underwear. Plus, some cards even come with a weekly health grocery allowance.

What is the Walmart Over-The-Counter (OTC) Card?
An over-the-counter (OTC) card is a prepaid credit card issued by an insurance company as part of the Medicare Advantage program for seniors.
This means that you can use your OTC card to buy certain healthcare products and medicines.
Once your insurance company has added the funds to the card, you can use the prepaid card like a credit card.
In addition, the OTC Card is accepted in all Walmart stores nationwide, and cardholders do not need a credit check to qualify for the OTC Walmart Card.
If you’re not familiar with these types of cards, watch this informational video on the OTC network.
What can you buy from Walmart with an OTC card?
From browsing the website or walking into a store, you can see that Walmart offers a variety of health products.
However, not all of these products are OTC eligible, as each program has its own list of products that can be purchased with an OTC card at Walmart.
While accepted products vary by carrier, in general, seniors and people with disabilities can purchase the following items at Walmart:
- Denture related products
- digestive medicine
- First Aid Supplies
- Orthopedic Support
- rescue the suffering
- sleeping pills
- wart removal products
- cold and cough medicine
- flu medicine
- antibiotic ointment
- band Aid
Which insurance companies offer OTC cards for use at Walmart?
While there are many Medicare Advantage plans for seniors, they may not offer OTC cards that Walmart accepts.
However, a full list of current programs that offer this benefit is available on Walmart’s website.
Additionally, some programs where you can use your OTC card at Walmart include:
- National Anthem BCBS

How to Use OTC at Walmart
There are several ways you can use your OTC benefits at Walmart: in store, online at Walmart.com or using their mobile app, or even by phone.
Let’s take a look at how you will use your OTC cards.
stock available
This is the easiest way to use your OTC card because you just have to show it at checkout and use it as your payment method.
However, Walmart’s customer support site states that some OTC programs do not allow in-store purchases.
Instead, you must use your card information online.
Walmart.com and the Walmart App
You can also use your OTC card on the Walmart website and its mobile app (available in select states).
Before you can do this, though, you’ll need a Walmart.com account, which is free and easy to sign up for (sign up via this link).
Then, simply place the items you wish to purchase into your digital cart and navigate to checkout.
Instead of entering a credit card number, or even an OTC number where you would enter credit card information, you enter it in the gift card field.
Also, to checkout with your OTC benefits, please enter your OTC number in the gift card field.
For many seniors with limited mobility, online shopping can be just fine because if you have Walmart+, you can opt for store pickup or even same-day delivery.
use the phone
To place an order by phone, you can call the number on the back of your card and a representative will assist you.
In fact, you can use this number if you have any questions about your card.
Not sure about your balance? Not sure which programs qualify? Want a record of your purchases?
Call the number on the back of the card and someone can answer your questions.
What are the benefits of having a Walmart Counter Card?
As you can see, OTC cards offer many benefits in various forms. So, some benefits of owning an OTC card at Walmart also include:
- You can get discounts when you buy certain medicines and health products from Walmart.
- You can use your card to shop online and still get the same benefits as in store.
- Many cards have up to $50 in weekly grocery savings, which can be used to buy discounted dairy, beans, meat/seafood, bread, fruit and vegetables.
- You don’t need to worry about carrying cash
- Your account is protected by PIN, Touch ID and Face ID.
How do I find OTC eligible products at Walmart?
It can be difficult to find the information you’re looking for on OTC-eligible products if you don’t know where to look, and that’s where Walmart’s OTC Drug List comes in handy.
When you’re ready to shop, you’ll find all OTC-eligible healthcare products available at Walmart.
That said, Walmart’s website has these items neatly categorized, so it should be easy to find what you need.
As a reminder, each Medicare Advantage plan has its own list of OTC-eligible products. So be sure to click the program link at the top of the page when looking for a project.
Can You Use Your Walmart Over the Counter Card Online?
OTC cards are primarily intended for seniors who visit Walmart stores.
Instead of carrying cash with them, they can simply swipe their cards to purchase many OTC-eligible items.
However, for the convenience of seniors who may not be able to shop at a brick-and-mortar Walmart store, they can purchase Medicare OTC items through the Walmart website (available in select states).
You can then ship, deliver, or pick up at a Walmart location.
Plus, for convenience, your benefit card information can be entered into your Walmart account and saved in an online wallet, saving you time by avoiding entering information every time you order.
