What is Apple Pay? (all you must know)
Over the past few years, digital payment processors such as Apple Pay have become the most convenient and fastest way to pay.
However, you might be wondering what Apple Pay is and how it works. If so, read on to learn about my findings!
What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay is a digital contactless payment option available only on Apple devices in 2022. Apple Pay allows you to connect debit and credit cards to your Apple devices such as iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Macbook through Apple Wallet. Use them directly to pay for goods and services.

How to set up Apple Pay?
Thankfully, setting up Apple Pay is easy and quick. First, to set up Apple Pay, you must set up your Apple Wallet.
So, to set up your Apple Wallet, it’s already installed on your Apple device, so all you need to do is go to the Apple Wallet app on your device and follow the instructions to open it.
After you set up Apple Wallet, you can add your debit, credit, or prepaid cards to Wallet to use with Apple Pay.
Also, to add cards on iPhone:
- First, open your Apple Wallet app and click the Add button
- It looks like a circle with a “+” in the middle
- Then, click “Debit or Credit Card” and “Continue”
- Next, follow the steps it gives you to add a new card
- Also, if you are asked for your bank name or issuer, you can select your bank or issuer from the list, or use the search bar to search
- Finally, you will need to verify your information with your bank or card issuer
- In order to verify your information, you may be asked to provide more information or download an application
Also, to add previous cards to your iPhone:
- As before, open the Wallet application and click the Add button
- Then, click on “Previous Card”
- Next, select the cards you want to add back to Apple Wallet and click Continue
- Finally, follow the steps again to finish adding your card
- You may need to verify your information again
Also, if your iPhone is paired with an Apple Watch, you can add cards to your Apple Watch.
So, to add cards to your Apple Watch using your iPhone:
- Start by opening the Apple Watch app on the paired iPhone
- Second, tap the “My Watch” tab, then “Wallet & Apple Pay”
- Next, click on “Add Card”
- Then, click “Debit or Credit Card” to add a new card, or “Previous Card” to select your previous card on Apple Wallet
- Finally, click Continue and follow the steps provided to finish adding the card
- Additionally, you may need to verify your information, even if you have done so in the past
Also, to add cards to Apple Watch using the watch:
- First, open the Wallet app on your Apple Watch
- 2. Click “Add Card”
- Then, click “Debit or Credit Card” to add a new card, or you can click “Previous Card” to select a card you previously had in Apple Wallet, then click “Continue”
- Finally, complete the steps where you add the card
- As before, you may need to verify your information
Finally, add the card to your Macbook or iPad:
- Start by opening Wallet settings on your device
- For Macbooks, go to System Preferences, then Wallet & Apple Pay
- For iPad, go to Settings, then Wallet & Apple Pay
- Next, click on “Add Card”
- Finally, follow the steps to complete adding a card and verifying your information

How to use Apple Pay?
You can use Apple Pay to pay for items and services in stores, apps, and the Internet through Apple Wallet on your Apple device.
To pay in-store with Apple Pay using your iPhone:
- First, open your Apple Wallet with your phone’s Touch ID, Face ID or passcode (your default card will automatically be your first card)
- However, if you want to use a different card, click on your default card, then click on the new card you want to use and authenticate with it
- With your wallet open and your card ready, hold the top of your iPhone against the contactless card reader until the word “Done” appears on the screen with a check mark
Additionally, to pay with Apple Pay in stores with your Apple Watch:
- First double-click the side button
- After that, your default card is automatically turned on
- If you want to use another card, scroll down on the screen and select the card you want
- With the card open, hold the Apple Watch’s display close to the contactless card reader until you feel it vibrate and hear a beep
Additionally, to use Apple Pay to pay online or in-app on any Apple device:
- Start by clicking the Apple Pay button or select Apple Pay as your payment method
- If you want to use a different card than the default card, click the “Next” button or the “Extended Menu” button next to the default card
- Second, if you have not entered your billing and shipping addresses and contact information, you must enter them before proceeding
- Finally, you need to confirm the payment
- So, to confirm a payment with your iPhone or iPad, you can use Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode
- Also, to confirm payment with Apple Watch, you need to double-tap the side button
- Finally, to confirm payment with your Macbook, you can either use Touch ID or use a Bluetooth-connected iPhone or Apple Watch
Additionally, once your payment has been processed, the screen will display “Done” with a checkmark.
Where can I use Apple Pay?
Luckily, Apple Pay is accepted almost everywhere!
Additionally, Apple says, “You can use Apple Pay in stores, within apps, on the web in Safari, in certain countries and regions, and in Message Apple.”
Also, if you want to use Apple Pay in-store or online, look for the Apple Pay symbol. The first symbol for Apple Pay is a rectangular box with the Apple logo next to the word “Pay.”
Additionally, another Apple Pay symbol is an oval with a Wi-Fi symbol on the side.
Also, if you want to use Apple Pay in other countries like China or Japan, they will have some additional symbols that look different from the regular US symbols.
Additionally, if you’ll be using Apple Pay to pay in-store, you can “search for Apple Pay on Maps to see nearby stores that accept Apple Pay.”
Is there a charge for Apple Pay?
Luckily, there are no fees or extras for using Apple Pay! Apple says: “No. Apple doesn’t charge you when you use Apple Pay in stores, online, or in the app.”
Additionally, if you notice an additional charge on your card or statement that you do not recognize, you should contact the store where you purchased the item, or you can report the problem to Apple.
Therefore, to report a payment issue to Apple:
- First, open your Apple Wallet
- 2. Click on the used card
- Next, click on your problematic transaction
- Then click the amount
- Finally, click “Report a problem” and follow the details to report your problem
