Who Makes Aldi Products? (almond milk, ice cream, TV, potato chips, etc.)
With more and more information readily available on the Internet, consumers are as concerned as ever about the origin of the goods they buy. From their cheese to their living room sofa, people want to know who made it and where.
Germany-based grocery chain Aldi carries most of its own-label items, so it’s no surprise that in many cases their origins are unknown.
If you’re an Aldi fan and curious about where their products come from, I’ve got you covered. Here are some of the top items from Aldi and who made them!
Who Makes Aldi Products?
Aldi Almond Milk from Friendly Farms
Aldi’s Friendly Farms-labeled almond milk is the go-to choice for many vegans and those with lactose sensitivities, and not just because of the price (it’s only about $2 a half gallon, while Silk typically retails for about $3).
Aldi’s almond milk is also free of carrageenan, an additive used to thicken liquids that has been linked to health concerns.
Friendly Farms label products come from a VT company called Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy, whose parent company is Ehrmann AG in Germany.
Aldi Diapers (diapers) made by Little Journey
New parents quickly learn the value of good, affordable diapers; it can feel like you’re going through hundreds of them each week, and you need to spend your entire budget on diapers.
Aldi’s diapers are priced very competitively at around 14 cents per diaper, which is surprising considering big brands can charge as much as 80 cents per diaper.
The company that makes Aldi’s Little Journey diapers is called First Quality, LLC. They have facilities in Pennsylvania and Georgia dedicated to the manufacture of baby care items.
You may have heard of other First Quality products, including Prevail adult incontinence products, Plenty wipes, and their own diaper brand, Cuties.
Aldi Bread Products Made by L’oven
Aldi’s bread is always a great deal, white bread is as low as $0.89!
Even better deal if you find them made by the same manufacturer (Bimbo Bakeries, USA) as Sara Lee products.
One user on Reddit commented that this makes sense since Bimbo serves Wendy’s burger buns and they think the Aldi buns taste exactly the same.
It’s also worth mentioning that some of Aldi Australia’s bread comes from a 100-year-old family business called Davies Bakery. They offer bread, muffins and English muffins under the Aldi brand Bakers Life.
Aldi beer with various labels
Aldi’s beer doesn’t get the same acclaim as their wine, but it’s still drinkable and much cheaper than the big brands or craft breweries.
What’s more, some of the beers in the Aldi range are packaged and sold under the name of the actual brewery.
As it happens, the Third Street Brewhouse label is a small brewery from Minnesota that Aldi works with.
The Wernesgrüner Pilsner, considered by Thrillist to be the best of its kind, is imported from Germany. In fact, the brewery was founded in Saxony some 600 years ago and has been in operation ever since.
Imperium, White Tide (reminiscent of Blue Moon) and Brens Lager come from a brewery in Bocholt, Belgium called Brouwerij Marten, NV. The company sells its own brand of beer and partners with other companies to sell its own brand of beer.
The Independence Harbor Amber Ale (a parody of Sam Adams, I think) and the Wild Range IPA both come from a brewery called Custom Tap Brews in Rochester, New York. According to BeerAdvocate.com, the beers were brewed through another Rochester brewery, Genesee Brewing.
Also made in the USA, Ryder No. 8 Blonde Ale, Hopping Nomad IPA, and Brecken Bock are all brewed at the State of Brewing Regional Brewery in Waunakee, Wisconsin.
Cerveza Monterrey, a Corona dupe, is another imported beer brewed at Cervecería Centro Americana in Guatemala.
As the name suggests, Dutch Lager 1839 is imported from the Netherlands through Swinkels Family Brewers, who have a great line of IPAs, lagers, and more.
Aldi Ice Cream from Belmont and Sundae Specialty
Aldi’s Belmont ice cream has received mixed reviews, with some absolutely loving the flavors (Moose Tracks in particular) and others not liking it at all, calling it “ice milk”.
Still, it’s hard to complain when Ben and Jerry’s dupes sell for less than $2.50 per 16 ounces and brand names can run as high as $5 per container.
However, in case you were wondering, Aldi doesn’t source its ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s; it does source it from Ben & Jerry’s. It actually comes from a company in northern Michigan called Ludington’s House of Flavors.
As for the Sundae Shoppe label, these products are produced by Fieldbrook Foods Corporation in Dunkirk, New York.
Aldi Cereal Made in Millville
Many sources claim that Millville Grain is actually just General Mills, but according to Mashable, that’s not the case. However, the website doesn’t go on to say who makes the Aldi generic brand, so I did some digging.
Millville Grain is produced by MOM Brands Company in Minnesota, but was acquired by Post Holdings (also from Minnesota) in 2015.
So if Aldi sticks with its manufacturer during the merger, Post Holdings will make Millville cereal in boxes and bags.
But they didn’t all make it. Millville Label Granola is produced and manufactured by New England Natural Bakers in Greenfield, MA.
Aldi Chocolate by Moser-Roth
Aldi’s chocolates are famous confectionery, perfect for summer morels or any other time of year in the charcuterie. Moser-Roth labels are produced by a German company called August Storck.
Moser-Roth was originally founded in Stuttgart in 1841, but has since changed hands several times. In 2007, August Storck KG revived the brand and began producing it exclusively for Aldi.
Aldi Infant Formula by Perrigo Nutritionals
Aldi’s Little Journey label covers many baby essentials to the relief of cash-strapped parents everywhere. Their formula, in particular, has been a godsend for many, since a 22.5-ounce can of Sensitive Formula is just $13.59.
If the recipe’s ingredient list looks familiar, that’s because it’s made by Perrigo Nutritionals, which also supplies private-label formulas to Kroger, Walmart, and Sam’s Club, among others.
Aldi Potato Chips Made From Olde York Potato Chips
If you haven’t tried Aldi’s Clancy brand chips, you’re missing out! In a world where a potato chip sale means paying $3-4 per bag of the brand name, Clancy’s doesn’t cost more than two or three bucks, depending on the type.
Aldi sources their Clancy’s labels from several sources.
The Combo Snack Bag and Wavy Potato Chips are made by Olde York Potato Chips in Brampton, Ontario. Their cinnamon apple chips are made by the Seneca Snack Company in Marion, NY.
Some of Clancy’s potato chips are made by a Minnesota snack company called Barrel O’ Fun.
Aldi Mixed Salad in Bags by Little Salad Bar
Salad mixes in bags make healthy meals super easy and convenient, and Aldi’s Little Salad Bar Garden Salads are just $1.49 a bag.
By comparison, Fresh Express brand bagged salads cost as much as $3.50 a bag.
The real kicker? They are the exact same product. Yes, Aldi Garden Salad Bags are produced and manufactured by Fresh Express; only a fraction of the price that Aldi charges.
Fresh Express is based in California, but they have growing areas of all kinds of vegetables all over the country and even in Mexico.
Aldi Trail Mixes and Mixed Nuts by Southern Grove
Nut lovers are delighted with Aldi’s low prices, as the more expensive varieties in the grocery store, including mixed nuts, pistachios and even almonds, can be quite pricey.
However, Aldi’s Southern Grove Sweet & Salty Trail Mix is sold in packs of eight for just $2.65 for a total of 12 ounces. Snack combo.
The snack combo is actually a product of a company called King Nut Company, which in turn is owned by Kanan Enterprises of Sauron, Ohio.
Kanan Enterprises is also responsible for the Peterson Gourmet Nuts and Snacks fundraising directory that schools and organizations use to raise funds.
The King Nut Company’s website even advertises its private label and custom packaging capabilities!
Another Southern Grove label item is the Mixed Nuts Less Than 50% Peanuts product, which Aldi sells for $4.99 for 14.75 ounces. A case of similar pots can run up to $11!
This Aldi product, however, is made by the Superior Nut Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which was founded in 1929.
It’s no surprise that Aldi is partnering with this particular company, as Superior Nut takes its sustainability work very seriously; as of 2013, all of the company’s practices are net zero. This is in line with Aldi’s sizeable sustainability mission.
Aldi Non-Dairy Almond Milk Frozen Desserts Made From Earth Grown
Also known as vegan ice cream, Aldi’s non-dairy almond milk frozen dessert comes in three flavors (mocha fudge, chocolate and vanilla) and is delicious even for non-vegans.
Specialty diet foods can be prohibitively expensive, but Aldi makes these lifestyles more affordable. As an example, their Earth-Grown ice cream is only $3 a pint, while the brand’s going price starts at around $4.50 and only goes up from there.
Earth Grown vegan ice cream is actually made by SmithFoods, a dairy wholesaler based in Orville, Ohio, with factories in the Midwest.
Aldi Pesto by Priano
Making pesto is easy, but buying pesto is even easier (and no food processor to clean!), and it won’t break the bank on Aldi.
Priano pesto is an incredible deal at $2.19 for a 6.7-ounce jar ($6.99 for a 6.5-ounce jar of Delallo pesto).
This particular Priano label item is produced by a German company called BLM Produktions-und Vertriebsges mbH & Co KG. Based in Germany, they specialize in wholesale pasta and pasta related products.
Seasonal selection of Aldi frozen fruit
With the surge in interest in making smoothies, affordable access to frozen fruit is important to many families.
Aldi offers an assortment of bags of frozen fruit mix for $6.89 per 48-ounce bag, which is even $2 less than other store tags.
Aldi sources these frozen mixed fruit products through Wawona Frozen Foods in Clovis, California, a family-owned business with more than 100 products on the market. Wawona also supplies California grocery chain Raley’s.
Aldi Flour from Baker’s Corner
Aldi is selling a five-pound bag of flour under the Baker’s Corner label for just $1.15, so home bakers can save a lot on the budget.
The flour is made by ADM Milling Co., a Chicago-based multinational corporation with other headquarters and factories across the country and around the world.
