No one takes my DoorDash order (why – and what to do with it!)
Home delivery is one of the modern luxuries that makes dining out more convenient. One of those services, DoorDash, lets you order food from your favorite restaurants with the touch of a button.
However, one problem with food delivery services is the long wait. I’ve experienced it myself and it’s frustrating why no one takes my DoorDash order, sometimes up to 2 hours!
Why are your DoorDash orders being ignored? Read on to learn more and what to do if no one takes your DoorDash order.
Why is no one taking my DoorDash order?
No one takes your DoorDash order because no Dashers (DoorDash’s independent delivery drivers) are interested in the order, or they can’t take your order.
Here’s what you need to know and what you can do in these situations…
No Dashers are interested in the order
A big reason for this is that the tip is not high enough. DoorDash pays their contractors by calculating a minimum cost (usually $2 or $3 in total).
Dashers might decide it’s not worth the trip, especially if the order is late or too far away. A good estimate of the amount of tip to get Dasher to accept your order is the general tipping standard – 15-20% of your total bill.
Another reason could be distance. If the traffic is heavy or you’re far from the restaurant, Dashers may not think it’s worth taking the order. Remember, Dashers are earned per delivery, not hourly.
No Dashers available
Sometimes, there is no Dashes available for pickup at all. This usually happens when an order is placed at odd or busy hours. These Dashers may be off duty or occupied by other orders.
What happens if no one takes my DoorDash order?
When no one takes your DoorDash order, you have four options:
- DoorDash will cancel orders, refund and apologize
- You cancel your order and receive a refund
- You place another order with a higher tip
- Pick up your own
DoorDash will cancel orders, refund and apologize
If your order is not picked up after 30 minutes, DoorDash will cancel the order and issue a refund to you. Also, the amount DoorDash refunds you depends on the solution you choose.
DoorDash will only refund shipping and extra gratuity if you choose to pick it up yourself or reorder from another Dasher. However, if you cancel your order entirely, DoorDash will refund the entire bill.
You cancel your order and receive a refund
If you decide to cancel your order, you can get a full refund. However, the order must not have been assigned to the driver or confirmed by the restaurant.
You can cancel your DoorDash order by:
- Navigate to “Order” page on Doordash
- Click”help”
- tap”delivery problem”
- Choose your solution (pick up, reorder, full refund) or chat with an agent
Try placing the order again with a higher tip
You can place your order again, but this time with a higher tip. Dashers have a higher chance of getting your order when the tip amount is higher. In any case, there is no 100% guarantee, as there may simply not be any Dashers available to take your order.
self pick up
If no one picks up your DoorDash order, you can simply choose to pick up the order yourself. It’s a lot more hassle, but DoorDash will refund you shipping and extra tips. In this case, you must notify DoorDash before and after pickup.
Can I pick up my DoorDash order?
Yes, you can pick up DoorDash orders yourself, not Dasher. To do this, just click pick up Label when placing an order.
notes: Take note of when and how you prepare your order to know when to leave the house and avoid cold food.
If you choose to pick up after you don’t have any Dashers available, make sure you choose self pick up Resolution after cancellation of original order. This tells the restaurant to pause your order or continue preparing your order. You will also receive a refund for DoorDash shipping.
in conclusion…
DoorDash is the easy solution to get food from your favorite restaurant. However, it can be frustrating when the restaurant takes a long time to prepare your order or no Dasher wants to pick it up.
So always use the in-app tip feature and cash tips on delivery to improve the chances of someone picking your order.
