USPS used to only work Monday-Saturday, but recently I’ve noticed that USPS carts travel on Sundays.
So does USPS ship on Sunday now? We looked into it and here’s what we found…
Does USPS ship on Sunday?
USPS or the United States Postal Service only delivers two types of mail on Sunday, USPS Priority Mail Express and Amazon Packages. USPS Priority Mail Express is also known as USPS Overnight.
This article covers USPS Sunday Shipping: what it is, how it works, and how to find and use it.
Which USPS mail and shipping services are delivered on Sunday?
Only USPS Priority Mail Express items will be delivered to you on Sunday. This is because Priority Mail Express guarantees next-day (to two-day) delivery. Sunday delivery is usually the only way USPS can honor this guarantee.
If you visit the USPS Mail and Shipping Services Information page on their website, you’ll see the different mail services in a handy comparison table.
Priority Mail Express is the first service listed and you’ll see online shipping tab and learn more label under the title.
The Learn More tab will take you through all the features and pricing you need to know. You’ll notice that Priority Mail Express is the fastest service and features”Many major markets offer Sunday and holiday delivery for an additional fee. “
This surcharge can be found in the price list, but by following up on this feature in the domestic mail brochure, you will find that “Customers who do not wish to have delivery on a Sunday or a holiday can avoid the premium by choosing to guarantee delivery on a subsequent delivery day. “
USPS’ delivery of Amazon packages on Sunday is part of an agreement between the two companies. For now, Amazon continues to utilize USPS carriers for “last mile deliveries.”
While USPS Priority Mail Express deliveries usually complete by 6.30pm on Sundays, the delivery window for Amazon packages is wider. These deliveries may not be completed until 10pm, depending on the number of packages to be delivered.
Does USPS ever deliver regular mail on Sunday?
In the past, USPS has issued statements about changes to its regular delivery schedule. This happens when deliveries are so high that they have no choice but to extend shipping services (often including Sundays) to keep mail moving.
The most likely time for this to happen is around Christmas. USPS will issue some form ofFAQ – Sunday Holiday Package Delivery statement.
During this time, USPS will deliver Priority Mail, First Class, and Priority Mail Express items on Sunday.
Decisions to do so are usually made locally, and decisions to stop additional deliveries will also be made by local USPS staff.
USPS said the decision to cancel Sunday deliveries was purely “Keep the web clear and moving based on the volume at hand. “
Does USPS ship on Saturday?
USPS Saturday is just another normal business day. Priority Mail Express, First Class Mail, First Class Package and USPS Retail Ground all include Saturday delivery.
Delivery is done between 9am and 5pm, but may be delayed until late at night when mail volumes are very high.
Other delays may be caused by weather conditions, road and traffic conditions, employee availability, natural disasters and delivery destinations.
Which shipping companies ship on Sunday?
If you’re wondering about Sunday delivery options, you’ll be happy to know that there are two companies that offer Sunday delivery.
