MoneyGram is a fast and convenient way to send money worldwide. With CVS all over the place, we wondered if it was logical for CVS to offer MoneyGram.
We looked into it and here’s what we found…
Does CVS have a MoneyGram?
MoneyGram provides remittances and other financial services globally through digital platforms and retail locations: one of these retail locations is the US company CVS Pharmacy, which entered into a partnership with MoneyGram in 2019.

How does MoneyGram work at CVS?
Specifically, MoneyGram offers money transfer, money order, bill payment, mobile top-up, and prepaid card top-up services to people who may not have (or want) a bank account. What you do in CVS depends on the service you want to use.
For example, participating retailers such as CVS have installed MoneyGram touchscreen kiosks in their stores. Customers use them to send or receive funds, pay bills, load cards, and more. All MoneyGram agents can be identified by the displayed MoneyGram logo.
- Find MoneyGram Kiosk in the store and select the desired service.
- Customers can choose to create a four-digit passcode to use wherever the MoneyGram service is located.
- Complete service transactions at kiosks
- Go to the CVS cashier and pay the transfer amount
- Cashier will provide receipt with tracking number
If you are collecting money, this transaction also starts at MoneyGram Kiosk and is completed by the cashier. To receive money, you’ll need some form of identification: Social Security card, driver’s license, state ID. Some transactions require proof of address to complete. In this case, a bill, passport or photo ID will suffice.
- The transferred cash is usually available for withdrawal about ten minutes after the transfer is complete. (However, it is important to keep in mind that times depend on business hours and laws and regulations in the destination country.)
- Present a valid ID and transaction reference number (this will be given to you at the kiosk first.)
If you’re paying your bill, you’ll need cash for the transaction fee, transfer fee, and company name or receiving code.
- Using MoneyGram Kiosk, select the “Pay Bill” service
- Select the type of bill you want to pay
- Enter the receipt code for the company bill you are paying
- If you do not receive a code, enter the company name in the search field. If MoneyGram accepts payment from companies, it will go public (more than 13,000 listed companies)
- Complete the transaction and you will receive a MoneyGram reference number confirming that your transaction has been sent
- Validate payments with tracking and receiving tools
How much is a MoneyGram transaction?
MoneyGram transactions completed online will incur a fee of $1.99-$12.99, depending on the company and the amount you wish to pay. At agency locations such as CVS, the fee usually depends on the service, the company to be paid, the amount paid and the time of publication.
You can verify the exact transaction fee after finding the company and entering the amount you want to pay. All rates and fees can be viewed online.
At CVS, the purchase price per money order is $1.25 with a maximum order value of $500.
How much can I send with MoneyGram at CVS?
MoneyGram has a set of rules to control the number of transactions and the amount of transfers per day, week, month and year.
The maximum amount allowed for a transfer is $10,000, and this amount is only allowed once every 30 calendar days. MoneyGram recommends that if you receive a limit error when trying to send money, contact their customer service team for assistance.
At CVS, the maximum amount allowed per MoneyGram is $500. To buy more, multiple money orders must be ordered.
Can I claim MoneyGram transactions anywhere?
Cash can be withdrawn at any MoneyGram agent location. To find a location, simply go to the MoneyGram website”find a location“Bar. Here you can search by address, city, postcode or postcode.
Remember, you’ll need some form of ID, and maybe proof of address. You will also need the reference number of the transaction. This should be available from the sender.
If you are denied access to your MoneyGram transaction cash, the usual reasons are
- Transaction not yet processed
- you did not show proper identification
- You are not at an official MoneyGram agent location
What are the CVS MoneyGram hours?
MoneyGram services in CVS pharmacies are available during pharmacy hours. However, individual pharmacy information often displays a warning: The MoneyGram service may close sooner than the store. Please call ahead to ensure availability.
To find out if you can use the MoneyGram service, please call before arrival. The availability of MoneyGram services is entirely dependent on the availability of employees.
Does CVS do money orders?
Customers can buy money orders at CVS, and the international transfer company that CVS cooperates with to issue money orders is MoneyGram.
You will need to contact a CVS cashier to complete the transaction. They’ll ask for some form of ID, the correct cash amount for the money order, and a $1.25 purchase fee.
The maximum amount per money order is $500, and there is no limit to the number of money orders that can be purchased. However, each The money order fee is $1.25.
You cannot use gift cards or vouchers or credit cards to pay for money orders. Correct funds must be presented at the time of purchase.
Does CVS have a Western Union service?
Although Western Union is the larger of the two major international money transfer companies, CVS does not offer Western Union service or in-store money orders.
This is because CVS Pharmacy is not an official agent of Western Union.
