Can I take my dog to Planet Fitness?
Unfortunately, you cannot bring your dog to Planet Fitness unless it is a service animal.
If you find it difficult to leave your dog at home while exercising, you should look for a dog daycare or gym that is pet-friendly and allows you to bring your pet to the gym.
The most common reason Planet Fitness does not allow dogs is that it can become a hygiene issue. Maybe your dog is a proper potty trainer and doesn’t chew or bite, but it only takes one misbehaving puppy to ruin someone else’s stuff.
It’s easier to ban pets altogether than to deal with any problems that arise.
The second reason is that it is not safe for dogs to run around with heavy equipment. They could get hurt, or end up hurting or hurting someone in the process.
Additionally, Planet Fitness does not have a facility dedicated to dogs, which increases the odds of such incidents occurring.
Finally, dogs tend to shed hair, and some profusely, except for a few breeds. Unfortunately, some people are allergic to dog hair, and allowing dogs in Planet Fitness is a health hazard for people.

Does Planet Fitness allow emotional support animals (ESAs)?
Some people misunderstand Planet Fitness’ policy on service animals with emotional support animals. There is a clear distinction between the two because “emotional support” dogs are not “service” dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The main difference between an ESA and a service dog is that an ESA is not taught to perform any specific job or duty on behalf of its disabled owner.
However, service dogs are legally recognized only if they have been extensively trained to carry out a range of commands for people with disabilities.
Emotional support animals do not receive the same legal protections as service animals and are generally not allowed in most public spaces or in Planet Fitness gyms.
Even with service animals, Planet Fitness has some policies, as follows:
- Everyone, including service animals, should be able to freely enjoy all public spaces.
- If it is not clear whether the animal in question is a service animal, staff may ask whether the animal is required due to a disability and/or what tasks it has been trained to perform.
- Handlers are responsible for the day-to-day needs of service animals, such as feeding, grooming, cleaning, veterinary care and supervision.
