Is Sam’s Club Pharmacy cheaper than Walmart?
Walmart is the parent company of Sam’s Club, so the two companies are partnering to offer a wider range of shopping options rather than directly competing with each other.
That’s why, for example, Sam’s Club offers bulk buying, while Walmart’s merchandise management is more conventional. That means Sam’s Club may be cheaper per item, but buying in bulk will be more expensive than a single item found at Walmart.
Sam’s Club is generally cheaper than Walmart when it comes to medicines — especially if you’re a Plus member. As a Plus member, you also have access to 600 prescription generics (starting at $4). But keep in mind that you’ll need to purchase a $100/year Plus membership for this, with associated free shipping.
Your Sam’s Plus membership also has other benefits: 2% cash back on select transactions (up to $500 per year), free shipping, early store entry, and access to pharmacy and eyeglass services.
By comparison, a regular member of Sam’s Club (called a club) costs $45 a year and allows access to clubs and services, but the rewards aren’t that great. You can compare tables here. So it doesn’t make sense to buy a club membership to buy Sam’s Club Pharmacy – it doesn’t get you anything, and you don’t need it to shop there.
So Sam’s Membership is not just “what is cheaper“, and about “what is the easiest” and”What do I buy the most“.
Shopping at Walmart doesn’t require a membership at all. However, they do offer a Walmart+ membership for $98 per year. It gives you 2 free weekly shipping (if you spend at least $35 per order), free shipping, and low fuel prices for members. So you won’t get medicines for less, but you can deliver or ship them for free.

What insurance does Sam’s Club Pharmacy accept?
The coverage accepted at Sam’s Club Pharmacy depends on what coverage you have. Every health insurance plan has a list of covered prescription drugs, called a formulary. Certain drugs on your plan’s formulary may be automatically included on your doctor’s prescription.
Knowing whether to use Plus membership entitlements or individual insurance or government health care plans can be confusing as these often cannot be combined.
However, a Sam’s Club pharmacist can help you understand the cost of your prescription drugs and let you decide which plan is best for you with Plus Member Pharmacy Benefits.
Do you have to be a Sam member to get a prescription?
You don’t need to be a member to buy prescription drugs from Sam’s Club. There is no charge for non-members for scripted medicines. However, you won’t be able to use generic branded collections or other offers.
Non-members may pick up prescriptions at any Sam’s Club pharmacy or transfer them to any Sam’s Club pharmacy. It’s also possible to bring a prescription to a Walmart pharmacy, but unless you’re a Walmart+ member, you won’t be able to use Walmart’s version of RXSavings (Rx for Less).

What is the Sam’s Club RxSavings program?
All Sam members can save on prescription drugs through the Rx Savings network (Rx means “prescription”), which allows all members to get generic drugs for $4.
If you look at the Sam’s Club Prescription Savings search tool, you’ll find that it costs $4 for Club membership and free for Plus membership. Also note that the statement This plan is not insurance and cannot be combined with insurance.
To receive this prescription discount at a Sam’s Club pharmacy, members must have an active membership, either Club or Plus (but only Plus members receive additional membership benefits). Then simply show your Sam’s Club card at the pharmacy drop-off window. These benefits apply to active Sam’s Club members and others live in the same family.

Does Walmart offer Rx savings?
Walmart recently added Rx for Less, the Walmart version of Sam’s Club RXSavings. However, it’s only available for paid Walmart+ members.
The benefits are almost the same. The program offers discounts on commonly prescribed medications for a variety of health needs, including fireplace health medications, mental health medications, antibiotics, allergy and diabetes medications. Members can choose medicines at zero cost.
in conclusion..
Sam’s Club Pharmacy is popular for its convenience, long hours of operation and associated member benefits.
If you’re a regular pharmacy shopper, it might be worth buying a Sam’s Club Plus or Walmart+ membership: This gives you access to a range of benefits (including prescription savings) and delivery.
If you don’t go to the pharmacy frequently and you don’t have ongoing prescription needs, you may not need a membership just for pharmacy services.
