Where is the best place to get passport photos?
Everyone is required to provide a photo in their passport application, the specification for a compliant passport photo is that the photo you provide must:
- is a color photograph taken within the last 6 months
- Use clear face images – no filters of any kind
- don’t take selfies
- Become the image of a face without glasses
- Use only plain white or off-white backgrounds
- Print on matte or glossy photo-quality paper
- Digital alterations may not be made in any way
- Be a high-resolution photo without blur, graininess or pixelation
- Will not be damaged by holes, creases, marks or smudges
The correct size for a passport photo (without exception) is 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). The distance from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head must be between 1 – 1 3/8 inches (25 – 35 mm).
This means that most photos will be rejected unless they are taken by someone who knows what they are doing. And you can’t roughly trim any old photo to the desired specs.
Online tools and instructions can now be found to help you create your own passport photo. For example, the U.S. Department of State (Bureau of Consular Affairs) has some useful passport resources.
However, if you want to find a passport photo service (no longer available at Sam’s Club) and have it printed there, currently available services include:
- Walgreens
- walmart
- CVS
- Ritual aid
- Target
- FedEx
- United States Postal Service
