Does Sam’s Club pack your groceries?
Sam’s Club will not pack your groceries. You can choose to use a large cardboard box or bring your own bag to the store. They also sell reusable shopping bags in-store, including paper, plastic and canvas.

How do you shop at Sam’s Club?
First, you need to join. Without an active membership, you will not be able to access any Sam’s Club warehouses or services.
Just go to the Sam’s Club membership page and select your membership type. There are fees for both memberships, which are paid annually. You’ll see the benefits associated with each membership on the page.
Note the availability of curbside pickup (free for Plus members, $4 for club members) and free online shipping (all items for Plus members and some items for club members).
Once you become a member, you can shop in-store or online. If your items have been delivered, they will be boxed. Bulky items will remain as they are. The same applies if you choose curbside pickup. Small items will be boxed and larger items (by Sam’s Club staff) will be loaded into your vehicle as-is.
It’s important to remember your many groceries will Big and bulky because you shop at wholesale warehouses.
So, in-store, you can choose and shop your groceries and pay at checkout, using your own bag or a few boxes available near checkout.

What is Scan & Go?
Alternatively, you can use the Sam’s Club Scan & Go shopping app, which is also available in-store. You can do this with a free downloadable app available on any smart device.
Customers use an app on their smartphone to scan each barcode on each item before placing it in the cart. When you’re ready to checkout, you can pay through the app. You will need to show your receipt to the staff before leaving.
The Scan & Go option is popular because it allows busy shoppers to skip the checkout queue. If you choose this option, bringing your own luggage is the easiest (and fastest) way because you will pack everything yourself.
Don’t forget Instacart!
In 2019, Sam’s Club partnered with Instacart, a same-day delivery service for groceries and everyday essentials, including frozen meals.
You can shop online using a virtual shopping cart and have everything delivered to your door in less than an hour! Your items will be boxed (if they are small).
Shipping is different from regular free shipping at Sam’s Club because it’s faster and available to anyone, regardless of membership. However, Sam’s Club members will pay less through the app than non-members and receive other membership rewards.
Walmart (Sam’s Club parent company) doesn’t offer the program, you’ll need to spend at least $10, and there’s a delivery fee (unless you’re a member) Instacart Express):
- $8.99 for orders of $35 or more
- $12.99 for orders under $35
- $10.99 one hour delivery on orders $35 or more
- $14.99 One Hour Delivery on Orders Under $3
- $0 delivery fee for Instacart Express members ($149 per year or $14.99 per month)
