Target, the retailer we all know and love. Anyone can recognize its big red sign from miles away. We might think we’re familiar with everything about Target, including supermarkets, restocking times, and the mobile app.
However, Target’s stance on price matching can be confusing. Does the target price match first? They do have an extensive price matching policy, but it’s so wordy and confusing!
We did the research and concluded everything You need to understand Target’s price matching policy.
Does the target price match?
Yes, Target’s prices match local competitors within 25 miles of its store. Target will match the price of the same product (ie make, model, size, weight, color, quantity) as long as you submit a request within 14 days of purchase.
Note that Target store prices in Alaska and Hawaii do not match online competitors.
What is Target’s price matching policy?
You can price match any of the same products you purchased at a lower price from Target.com, a local competitor within 25 miles, a select online competitor, or a competitor’s local print ad. If you price match with Target’s mobile app, it must show the local store price.

For print ads, you can show Target employees a physical print or a digital version of the ad. Make sure the ad must be in its original state. They will not accept photographs, photocopies or screenshots as evidence.
Additionally, the products must be the same make, size, weight, color, and model. There are a few exceptions to Target’s price matching, but we’ll discuss that later.
Who does the target price match?
The target price matches about 30 competitors, including Amazon, Apple, CVS, Costco, Barnes and Noble, Home Depot, Gamestop, Kohls, Sams Club, Lowe’s, Staples, Walmart and JC Penney.

How to match at target price?
To price match at Target, simply bring proof of purchase and evidence of a competitor’s lower price to Customer service desk. A customer service representative will then verify the price and match accordingly.
Remember to bring:
- Smartphone or local print ads as proof
- purchase receipt
You can also do price matching in one of the checkout lanes, but it will be much slower.
As for price matching with Target.com, just call customer service 1-800-591-3869 Within 14 days of purchase.
What are the products whose target price does not match?
There are several exceptions to Target’s price matching policy. Target price mismatch:
- Clearance, clearance, liquidation sale.
- Damaged, used or opened packaging.
- Refurbished, used or rent/lease owned items.
- Competitors’ flash sales.
- Coupon offers, promo codes or gift card offers.
- Bundled deals.
- Prices from third-party sellers.
- Products sold by Target Plus™ partners on Target.com or Target’s mobile app.
Does the target price match the alcohol?
Yes, Target does price match items that contain alcohol, but it will be subject to state regulations. Additionally, Target does not price-match alcohol with exclusive online retailers like Amazon.
Does the target price match the out-of-stock item?
No, Target does not price out-of-stock items in online and offline stores. However, if your local Target store doesn’t sell items, Target does offer a rain check.
Does the target price match the holiday offer?
Yes, Target Price matches holiday deals thanks to its new Holiday Price Match Guarantee. If you purchased any holiday deals between October 10th and December 24th, you can request a price match within 14 days of purchase.
The same price-matching rules still apply: bring the receipt, proof of the lower price, and your smartphone to the customer service desk.
Note that the Holiday Price Match Guarantee is only available in 2021, so its policy for 2022 and future years has yet to be announced.
Does Target accept price-matched coupons?
You can use manufacturer coupons on price matching, but only for in-store purchases. Coupon will be used after price adjustment. However, you cannot use Target coupons with price matching, signup completion coupons, or Target Circle offers.
Does the target price match Amazon?
Yes, Target (and each retailer) will price match Amazon.com, but are still subject to Target’s price matching policy. That is, you cannot do price matching:
- Products sold by third-party sellers
- Amazon Prime Deals
- Amazon Fresh Exclusive Deals
- Refurbished, damaged, used or opened items
- Amazon Add-Ons
Does the target price match eBay?
Target doesn’t match eBay prices. No one knows exactly why, but it should have something to do with eBay’s super low prices and aggressive price matching with 50,000 stores.
Does the target price match the Walmart price?
Yes, Target’s prices do match Walmart brick-and-mortar and online stores. The same procedure applies: bring the proof of the lower price, the original purchase receipt and your smartphone to the customer service desk.

Target’s price matches as long as you show proof of purchase within 14 days of purchasing the item. You can only price match items that are 100% identical in terms of model, brand, size, color and quantity. However, Target stores in Hawaii and Araxa do not do price matching.
