McDonald’s 25 Cent Cheeseburgers in 2022 (what are they, they’ll come back, how to get them)
What if you could get a hamburger, a drink, and some fries for just $1? This used to be possible in the 1950s when McDonald’s opened its first store. Currently, the fast food chain has grown so large that it is now more of a real estate conglomerate.
As the saying goes, no one can evade taxes or run away, but there is actually a third factor – inflation. The quiet and omnipresent force raises the cost of living everywhere, including the price of a Big Mac. Gone are the days of a 25-cent milkshake or a 20-cent apple pie…or is that so?

What is McDonald’s 25 Cent Cheeseburger?
McDonald’s 25-cent cheeseburgers are part of a “Throwback Thursday” sale that allows customers to buy classic menu items at retro prices. The deal, which ran from January 21 to February 18, 2021, has not been repeated this year.
History of the 25 Cent Cheeseburger
When the McDonald brothers opened their first stall in the 1940s, they sold hamburgers and cheeseburgers for 15 cents and 19 cents, respectively.
It was an instant hit with home consumers and investors, and by 1958, the Golden Arches had sold more than 100 million hamburgers, according to Business Insider.
Over time, inflation and rising operating costs have forced fast-food chains (and all others) to increase menu prices. For reference, a regular cheeseburger costs $1.20 on UberEats.
Naturally, people became dissatisfied, and a “Throwback Thursday” deal was introduced, allowing customers to pay for their favorites on the menu as they did in the 1940s. However, the promotion will only be running for 4 weeks in 2021. Has not returned since.
What is the McDonald’s Throwback Thursday promotion?
From Jan. 21 to Feb. 18 last year, customers of the fast-food chain were able to add to their meal for just 20 cents with an extra little milkshake, apple pie, large fries or cheeseburger. The problem is they have to download McDonald’s mobile app and spend at least $1 inside the app, which is still a good deal.
How to Get a McDonald’s 25 Cent Cheeseburger
The only way to buy a McDonald’s cheeseburger for 25 cents is to wait for the next promotion or invent the time machine. You can’t take the 25-cent cheeseburger off the regular menu because it’s part of the 4-week “Throwback Thursday” event.
The promotion appears to be a one-time deal, and it doesn’t seem to be coming back.
Plus, the massive restaurant chain is known for creating artificial scarcity by making certain items in limited editions, so we shouldn’t expect to see another “retro” promotion anytime soon.
That said, there are still ways to get McDonald’s cheeseburgers and other items on the cheap.
Other recurring McDonald’s promotions
This fast food chain has always been known for selling delicious fast food at great value. One such way is through promotions, they are very generous to them. In fact, McDonald’s has a monthly promotion!
Currently, customers who spend at least $1 on Mobile Order & Pay purchases can get medium fries for free if they order it on Friday. During National Cheeseburger Day last September, you could even get a double cheeseburger for $0.50, and no, that’s not a typo.
McDonald’s has promotions every month, especially during holidays like Christmas or Easter. If you don’t want to miss out on future promotions, stay up to date by downloading their mobile app or visiting their deals page.
Cheaper deals at other fast food restaurants
Fast food is an extremely competitive industry, with hundreds of different brands jostling for an inch of market share. It’s not uncommon to see Burger King, Taco Bell or Chick-Fil-A next to a McDonald’s store.
To snatch customers away, some have resorted to cunning tactics, such as Burger King’s 1-cent burger promotion if people are within 600 feet of a McDonald’s.

in conclusion…
The 25-cent cheeseburger is a relic of the past that occasionally returns with promotions like Throwback Thursday. However, the deals themselves are rare, with the last known one being between January 2021 and February 2021.
No one knows exactly when McDonald’s will drop the much-loved discount, but if you’re a cost-conscious consumer, there are plenty of deals going on that are sure to tempt you.
