Will Planet Fitness ask for an ID? (what to know!)
Planet Fitness has amassed a massive membership base of 15 million in the United States. For this reason, Planet Fitness is a great option for people who have never been to a gym and don’t want to work out in the same place as muscular people. You can easily join Planet Fitness with minimal paperwork required.
If you’re interested in using Planet Fitness’ facilities, you might be wondering if it’s okay to use someone else’s membership. Or if you must provide identification at Planet Fitness to prove you are a legitimate member.
Here are some things you should consider before heading to Planet Fitness for a workout. People often wonder if they need a guest pass to use Planet Fitness on their own, since some members can bring visitors.
We prepared this article to discuss whether or not Planet Fitness requires ID.
Will Planet Fitness ask for an ID?
Yes, Planet Fitness will ask customers to provide identification. When you invite friends to Planet Fitness and take them with you, guests are required to show photo ID to sign up for membership.
The club will then provide each guest with a unique number to serve as their temporary key tag.
A driver’s license card is always the best form of identification.
Does Planet Fitness check the ID?
Planet Fitness employees will not cross the line to verify your identity if you present your membership card. However, your photo will appear with your ID when you check in. This would be a dead giveaway that you are not a legitimate gym member and should not be allowed in.
Memberships to Planet Fitness are personal and may not be shared with anyone, even with the owner’s consent. As a member, you may not transfer your membership to another person or add anyone else to your membership. Each individual membership is created exclusively for one user.
If black card holders so choose, they can bring a visitor, but only under certain conditions. Planet Fitness guests are restricted to the gym portion and may not use any other amenities or visit the gym unaccompanied.
If they want to exercise, they need to bring a member with a membership card. They cannot just use the ID to pass off as a member and enter the building. Planet Fitness’ check-in system prevents those without membership from using the facility.
That’s why Planet Fitness membership cards come with an auto-display photo. Planet Fitness staff can more easily identify non-members when they see them coming in. If this happens, you will have to leave as you will not be able to use the gym.

Does Planet Fitness require proof of age?
You must be at least 18 years old or have permission from a legal guardian or parent to exercise at Planet Fitness. Once you check in with Planet Fitness, they will know your age, but they won’t ask.
Individuals under the age of 18 cannot be members of Planet Fitness. Photo ID is required to verify your age. Minors can come accompanied by their parents or guardians.
Planet Fitness has a strict dress code and requires members to provide identification. Please refer to the website or ask a Planet Fitness staff member for more information on acceptable fitness attire.
If you have a valid membership, you do not need to show proof of age to check in. When you become a member of Planet Fitness, the staff will know your membership and give you a warm welcome.
If you are under 18, you must have parent or legal guardian permission to join. After that you don’t need anyone to verify your age. Planet Fitness does not accept or provide services to anyone under the age of 13. This provision remains in effect if the guardian is not present.

Do Planet Fitness Summer Passes require ID?
Planet Fitness is offering young people a unique incentive to maintain a healthy lifestyle by offering free summer memberships. In July 2019, the fitness chain announced a new program called High School Summer Pass.
The program will allow high school students free access to the chain’s clubs between May 16 and Aug. 31. Known as the Teen Summer Challenge in 2019, the program has been helping teens stay active through the summer of school sports, fitness classes, and after the event ended.
Planet Fitness is running a scholarship sweepstakes to reach as many young people as possible. At the end of the summer, one lucky kid will receive a total of $5,000, with each state winner receiving $500.
No ID is required to participate in Planet Fitness’ summer program, so ages 14 to 19 can sign up for free memberships and workouts, according to the organization. Minors require parent or legal guardian approval before registration.
Once the program begins, teens simply visit the gym’s website or visit a local gym to sign up. Teens may only use the Planet Fitness facility they joined during the registration process; they cannot use their Summer Pass at any other Planet Fitness site.
