Will USPS become Canada Post? (What to know!)
I recently shipped some documents to Canada via USPS to a family member.
But since USPS is a U.S. government owned and operated business, it makes me wonder who will be fulfilling the goods in Canada? Will USPS become Canada Post when in transit?
We looked into it and here’s what we found…
Will USPS become Canada Post?

Is Canada Post owned by the government?

When was Canada Post founded?
Canada Post was formally established in 1867 when the Confederation of Canada was established and the Post Office Division (Royal Post Canada) was established.
Before that, the postal service was under the control of the British government.
Then, in 1981, the Federal Parliament passed the Canada Post Corporation Act, which transformed Canada Post into a company called Canada Post or CPC (trading as Canada Post). This company is nothing like the US Postal Service.
Do USPS and Canada Post offer the same service?
Canada Post and USPS are not the same service, although they do offer the same Serve.
The U.S. Postal Service is “an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government.” This is expressly authorized by the U.S. Constitution. “
Canada Post is a government-owned Crown Corporation. They are all directed to fund operations through product and service revenue.
The difference is that USPS must obtain congressional approval to make any changes to its operations. Canada, on the other hand, does not have to submit business decisions to parliament for approval.
This means Canada Post was able to announce the end of door-to-door mail delivery in urban centres in 2013 based on an internal decision rather than a parliamentary proposal.
