Will Lululemon take Afterpay in 2022? (Refunds, late fees, spending limits)

Some of the most popular options include Afterpay and Klarna. Afterpay in particular reflects one of capitalist America’s most successful underdog stories. Since its first launch in 2015, Unicorn has now served more than 16 million customers and nearly 100,000 merchants worldwide.
But is athleisure brand Lululemon part of that list? Let’s find out!
Does Lululemon accept Afterpay?
Yes, Lululemon accepts Afterpay in-store, online and in-app with no additional interest if paid on time. However, you cannot use Afterpay to buy loyalty or gift cards. Receipts must also be at least $1 and no more than $2,000.
What is postpaid?
Afterpay is a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) service with guaranteed approval and no credit checks. Customers can use Afterpay at any Lululemon point of sale, whether in-store, online or in-app. The Australia-based company is now sold at nearly 100,000 retailers worldwide, including Target, GOAT, Ulta and Nike.
However, there are limits to what you can spend with Afterpay and additional restrictions from retailers. This maximum amount will vary depending on the timeliness of your payment and how long you have been using the platform.
Afterpay does not perform a credit check when a new user logs in. Also, late payments or on-time payments won’t affect your credit score. Afterpay doesn’t report your payment activity to any credit bureaus, making it an attractive alternative to credit cards.
Unfortunately, the platform is only available in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. It also operates in the UK, France, Italy and Spain, but sells under the name Clearpay in the EU.
How does Afterpay work?
When you select Afterpay as your payment method at checkout, you will pay the first of 4 payments for 25% of the total receipt. You will then pay the remaining amount every two weeks for up to six weeks.
You also have the option to pay by a set deadline or set up an autopay deduction from your credit or debit card.
Before Lululemon or any other merchant can use Afterpay, you must first set up an Afterpay card account.
How to set up Afterpay
- Download the Afterpay app on your phone.
- Open the app and follow the on-screen prompts to set up your account.
- Add your Afterpay card to your preferred digital wallet: Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.
- Add your credit or debit card to the app for installment payments.
- Select Afterpay as your payment method of choice during checkout.
Once Afterpay is set up, you can log into your account and view your purchase history or pay at any time.
How to use Afterpay with Lululemon
After setting up your Afterpay card, you can now use it at any Lululemon store in available countries (US, Australia, Canada and New Zealand). However, Lululemon in the UK only seems to accept Klarna as their “buy now, pay later” option.

Lululemon accepts Afterpay for all apparel. However, you cannot use Afterpay to buy gift cards or pay for membership subscriptions. Additionally, receipts must have a minimum of $1 and a maximum of $2,000.
Regardless of the merchant or the amount, once there is an overdue payment, the user will not be able to use the Afterpay platform. If the automatic payment fails, you will receive a text message notification and a 10-day grace period before late fees are charged.

If you do not follow the payment schedule in the Afterpay app, you will be charged an initial late fee of $10 for orders under $40. Orders over this amount will incur a late fee of $25 on the total receipt, capped at $68.
You will also be charged an additional $7 if payment is not made within 7 days of the due date. Users cannot use Afterpay until all overdue charges are resolved.
To make a payment, just connect to your debit or credit card and pay manually or set up autopay. Note that this will still accrue interest on your credit card or charge your bank an overdraft fee.
Returns and Refunds
Afterpay will restore your funds to the original payment method within 3-5 business days of confirming the return. However, according to Lulu’s return policy, the item must be approved by the educator, and you must continue to pay until the return is confirmed.
All purchases made within 30 days can be returned according to Lululemon’s return policy. Additionally, garments must be unworn, unwashed, hang tags, and have proof of purchase.
notes: You should return clothing to Lululemon and not Afterpay.
Other payment methods
If you don’t want to use Afterpay, Lululemon also accepts Klarna, another “buy now, pay later” option. Neither option will affect your credit score, but Klarna will perform a soft credit check when creating a new account. Additionally, Klarna does not impose spending limits on its users.
