Does Starbucks sell boba tea? (Everything is known!)
Boba tea is popular all over the world! It has become very popular in recent years.
Starbucks is one of the largest coffee and tea shops, and it’s only logical to wonder if you can get your favorite boba tea at Starbucks. So, we looked into it, and here’s what we found…
Does Starbucks sell boba tea?
Starbucks doesn’t sell bubble tea, they never do. However, they are often asked to do so because customers think Starbucks, a multinational coffee chain that also sells tea beverages, will naturally have boba tea on their menu.
It’s unclear exactly why Starbucks doesn’t offer bubble tea, but one theory is that the process of quickly mass-producing bubble tea is too complicated (and therefore expensive) for Starbucks to add it to all of its stores.
What is boba tea?
Boba or bubble tea is made with a black or green tea base to which flavors like milk and honey are added, and then mixed with tapioca balls or pearls.
It is the tapioca balls that form the bubbles, hence the name “bubble tea”.
Although Starbucks doesn’t produce or serve these tapioca pearls, they do serve the black and green teas that make up the base beverage.
Starbucks also offers a range of milks, including soy milk, condensed milk and fresh milk.
Bubble tea comes in a variety of flavors because sugar and flavors are added to the base tea. Starbucks stores offer many of these condiments.
What are boba pearls?
Boba pearls are soft, chewable bubbles found in boba tea and are made from tapioca flour, water and brown sugar.
Tapioca is a starch made from cassava root, a woody shrub native to South America.
When tapioca flour (all starch) interacts with warm syrup (made from warm water and brown sugar) it forms the dough from which pearls are made.
The color and texture of the pearls come from sugar or honey sweeteners added during processing.
Where can I buy boba tea?
You can buy boba tea at a range of specialty tea shops in the United States, and compared to traditional tea, boba tea is slightly newer on the scene.
The best way to find a cafe that specialises in bubble tea is to look it up online and check first. Most chains don’t include bubble tea at all, although some may be considering them.
You’re more likely to find boba tea line drinks from dedicated teahouses that only build menus around the bubble tea line.
Does Starbucks have boba pearls?
Starbucks has a line of tea beverages, but they don’t sell pearls or include them in any beverage.
However, if you’re a bit of a tea connoisseur, Starbucks might still be worth checking out. Some of the teas they sell are:
- hot tea, such as green and black tea
- Fruit tea, such as mandarin mint tea, jade mandarin mint,
- Tea lattes such as matcha green tea, vanilla chai latte, English breakfast tea latte and Your Majesty Peppermintwithout caffeine or sugar
- Iced tea beverages such as iced green tea and iced matcha latte
- Other iced beverages such as Iced Black Tea Lemonade, Iced Green Tea Lemonade, Iced Passion Tango Tea, and Iced Guava Black Tea, to name a few
- iced milk beverages, such as green tea frappuccinos
Starbucks teas are made from a range of milk, syrup, sugar, extracts, ice cream and cream.
It’s all these “extras” and the variety of teas available that allow you to still enjoy bubble tea.
You can do this by starting the tea brewing process at Starbucks and completing it at home.
If you like boba tea, what can you drink at Starbucks?
Starbucks has all the essential ingredients in boba tea – except for the pearls. So you can buy the base tea, including the flavor and sugar you want, and then buy the pearls elsewhere.
Tapioca pearls are available at any boba tea shop or cafe, and you can also buy them online through bubble tea supply sites, online Asian grocery sites, and even Amazon.
Tapioca pearls can also be found in health food stores and some supermarkets and chains such as Walmart and Woolworths.
You may need a very thick straw, which is the traditional way to enjoy boba tea.
Make sure to read the instructions on the package to brew the pearls properly before adding them to your tea.

in conclusion..
While Starbucks seems like a great place to pick up boba tea, if you try it, you might be disappointed. Bubble tea drinks are time-consuming and expensive to make – Starbucks can’t include them in all stores.
However, there is another option. You can buy your tea at Starbucks, then complete the boba tea making process at home and still end up with a truly delicious bubble tea.
