Amazon delivers to a safe place (what it means, why it happens, and more!)
Everyone has something to do, and we all have jobs, social lives, and errands to do, so it’s only natural that we can’t be at the delivery location 24/7 waiting for our purchases to arrive.
Still, Amazon may complete the delivery the moment you just left “your post” and the package doesn’t fall into your own two safe hands, which is why Amazon decided to deliver to a safe place, but what exactly is what does it mean?
Why does Amazon ship orders to a safe place?
According to Amazon, if no one receives it at the time of delivery, they are obligated to leave the package anyway, but they claim it will be left in a safe place.
If no one can be found at the address upon delivery, we will leave the package in a safe location. If there is no safe location or delivery requires someone to be present, FBA will leave a visit notice. We will make three delivery attempts on consecutive days. After the third attempt, FBA will hold your package for three days, pending your delivery instructions. After three days, your package will be returned to Amazon for a refund.
It’s not very common, but Amazon is still ready to do these things.
Occasionally you’ll see an order status showing delivered but you haven’t received it yet. When this happens, they advise you to ask if the package can be delivered to the receptionist or a neighbor if you know you won’t be able to get there.
The operator will only knock on the door or ring the bell between 8am and 8pm, so you won’t be disturbed too early or too late in the evening. As always, if you checked those safe places and didn’t find the package, you should contact support for help with your issue.

What does “sent to a safe place” mean?
This essentially means that if you are unable to receive the package, you can still deliver it to another person or a specific location so that the carrier can safely leave the package until you can pick it up.
Of course, a safe place means it should have all the qualities of a safe environment for the package to be delivered when you ask for it, if not you won’t be able to receive it.
Some of these qualities or conditions are:
- Must be a dry place, protected from rain and other natural elements that may affect the condition of the package
- It should be kept out of the public eye.
- The person doing the delivery should be able to access it without issue.
- Some good places might be sheds, greenhouses, gated porches, garages or neighbors
Some places to avoid are:
- garbage can
- right on your doorstep
- garden or yard
- over a gate or near a wall
- Near a bench or “hidden” under some plants.
If you find your package in one of these places, then you should file a complaint.
You can usually see a picture of where your Amazon package was delivered. This is very helpful as some couriers can be very creative in making sure your package is invisible on the street and stolen.
How do I request a safe delivery location?
When you get to the confirmation screen during order checkout, you will need to select “Add Shipping Instructions” after selecting the shipping address.
There, you can choose to deliver to a neighbor’s house (must be next door and notified).
If available, you can also choose a safe place from the list, as long as it’s not publicly visible or unprotected. Remember that some orders do not allow you to deliver them to a safe place without any supervision.
If you have no other choice and cannot receive the package, the carrier will leave a calling card to let you know how to pick it up.
What if my Amazon package is lost?
You might think this could happen to any customer, however, shipping your package to a safe location can sometimes lead to confusion and can increase the likelihood of a lost package situation.
Even if you don’t need all of this, it’s always a good thing to be prepared, so if it does happen to you, here’s what you need to do.
How to track your package?
- First, go to your order history and see the latest information about the location of your package, where you will see if the package has been delivered and check the shipping address.
- Then, if it’s delivered, inspect your apartment, house, and ask your neighbors.
- If you don’t find it, please contact the carrier that shipped you to see if you can find any other information.
- If there is no other way, please contact support and solve the problem directly.
How do I report a lost package to a third-party seller?
- Go to the Details section of the order you want to report missing on the Amazon Pay website.
- There you have to select the question for the package, in this case it will be “Where is my stuff?” and click “Send to Merchant”.
If all else fails, you can always contact Amazon directly to request a refund.
What if Amazon sends a package to the wrong house?
If you start looking for your package in every safe place around your home and find nothing, you might think they sent it to the wrong place.
If that’s the case, you just need to contact support and let them know about you, and they’ll find the package, if they don’t, that’s fine, you’ll get a new package soon, or if you prefer, There are refunds.
If you’re one of the few people who receives a package that doesn’t belong to you, do the right thing and notify Amazon, we know you will, right?

in conclusion…
If you’re a busy person or you can’t receive the package you ordered from Amazon, remember there is a safe place to deliver it, but remember to keep track of it to avoid confusion and accidents.
It’s a good option, but if you can avoid all of that and receive the package yourself, that’s always the best option, but having the option will give customers a sense of confidence when shopping.
